Day 1 Introduction
Priority of Your Prayers – John 17:1-26
Maybe you’ve spent enough money on books that tell you what you must do to have a deeper life of prayer. You might question; do I need another book on prayer to make me feel guilty?
Don’t worry, that’s not my aim in writing Pray John 17: Learn how to Thrive in Your Relationship with Jesus."
Jesus reassures you when he says, Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me, watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.
Matthew 11:28-30 The Message Bible
Pray John 17 leads you through the prayer of Jesus in John 17. As you pray along with Jesus, it will empower you to pray for yourself, your family, friends, and the world.
Jesus’ prayer brings with it transformation of your heart – transformation will come – Christ Jesus promised it!
More and more believers I know hope to experience daily dialog and face-to-face friendship with the living God and with others.
You were always created for intimate fellowship with the Father in the here and now.
Transformation will come – Christ Jesus promised it!
Prayer
Dear Father, enlarge my capacity to spiritually understand how I can be the answer to Jesus’ Prayer in John 17.
Day 2 Becoming
Bringing Many Sons to Glory
I believe John intended for John 13-17 to be the whole section of what we know today as the upper room discourse.
It begins, Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.
John 13:1
And ends this way, And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.
John 17:26
John starts out showing the love Jesus has for His disciples and ends with Jesus praying for them. He loved them and wanted them to love each other.
My focus, will be on John 17, and taken from John’s eyewitness account of this last evening with His disciples. Here Jesus is discussing with the disciples how to live after His resurrection and furthermore, this same message is for the church today – for disciples throughout all time.
Jesus models what it means to live in close fellowship with God, what eternal life looks like for all disciples of all time. He is the best disciplemaker I know! This last evening with His disciples is His most important disciplemaking session in all of His ministry. As Jesus reveals his heart to His disciples and to you, in John 17, may you find comfort and courage to stand.
I call it,
