The Ghost Of Endale Arch
On this footpath I have wandered
Through a meadow full of rye,
On the age old cobblestones
I wander through all space and time.
Beneath the oak and maple trees
That here have stood two hundred years,
I read the etchings on the bark
As I pass under Endale Arch.
Alone, I come upon a stream
With many, many water plants,
The wind that gently blows around me
Never blew a scent so sweet.
I daydream by the water’s edge,
Near where the stream becomes a pond,
And focus on the water’s surface;
Water striders gliding by.
Water nymphs dance with the current,
Dragon flies pause on the top,
And I can hear off in the distance
The lonely bellow of a frog.
At last I reach the valley pass,
Where long ago a battle raged,
And young men met an early grave
Beside the oak and maple trees.
They since have stood to mark the site
For no one save eternity,
