Lori sat at the kitchen table and sipped on her morning coffee. She held the cup in both hands and stared off into space, as if in some sort of dreamland. It was hard getting images of Pam and Paul out of her head and she was filled with tremendous guilt after succumbing to all of the twins’ demands.

When the doorbell sounded, she almost jumped out of her skin. The severe shock of getting woken up from her dreamland state made it hard to get out of her chair, but Lori managed to stumble to the front door.

Love, I haven’t seen you for a few days so wondered if everything was okay, Dawn said to her neighbor.

Dawn lived down the block and the two women had been the best of friends ever since Lori moved into the neighborhood. The two actually did lots of things together, as their kids were all about the same age, and it had been about a week since the two had seen each other.

Ah, oh, I’ve been busy... too busy, Lori replied and quickly welcomed her dearest friend inside. Yes, it has been long... too long. Come... I just put coffee on.

Lori welcomed Dawn into the kitchen and she quickly poured the woman a coffee, as they sat down. They chatted and discussed what was happening with the kids and husbands before Dawn abruptly stared straight into her friend’s eyes.

Love, there’s something bothering you... I can tell, Dawn whispered and reached across the table to grab Lori’s hands. Please, let me help.

Lori returned the woman’s stare and felt her stomach churn and quiver from an overwhelming remorse. She was filled with a sudden feeling that if anyone could help, her best friend could. Ah, well, yes, something happened... there was... is someone, she mumbled and didn’t quite know how to tell Dawn about the controlling twins.

Suddenly the two women were standing and Dawn gave her friend the most loving embrace. Lori fell into the woman’s arms and felt an instant relief. If there was anyone who would listen and she could tell, it was her dearest friend.

Dawn slowly guided Lori out of the kitchen and into the secluded living room. I’m here for you, she whispered, as they sat down on the sofa and hugged. Tell me what’s bothering you.

Lori felt the woman’s warmth and loving concern. Yes, she thought, it will help if I confide in someone... let them hear my confession and then I will be forgiven. Well I... there is... oh Dawn, I don’t know how it happened, she said and felt the woman’s embrace get a little tighter.

I know. Sometimes we do things and then regret what happened. I’m sure it’s not all that bad, Dawn replied.

Oh, it is... I... I did something with, she whispered and had to stop.
