Midnight Whisky
Dr Roman Birbank looked up from the business card in his hand to the sign above the gloss black door. He was at the right place, yet it was nerves that hindered him from entering, knowing that once he walked through the door, he would see himself set upon a path that would place a black mark upon his soul for the rest of his natural life. Dr Birbank was a tall man, standing six foot four, he was broad but not fat, a toned athletic body hid beneath his knee length black trench coat and casual three-piece pin-striped ash grey suit. He took a deep breath, before exhaling heavily and extending his clenched fist, he rasped gently against the door, only realising when he knocked that it was enforced with steel. A hatch slid open, and Roman found himself staring up into a pair of hard yellow tinted eyes.
‘Password?’ A deep husky voice asked, Roman was sure the voice had a subtle accent to it, American were he to guess.
‘Seven Sirens.’ Roman replied calmly, trying not to stutter or show any visible sign of nerves. The unclasping of secure locks and the audible clink and rattles alerted him to the fact many clasps were used in securing this door. The shimmering midnight-black door opened inwardly, and a huge dark skinned giant greeted him, tightly fitted navy blue blazer and black turtle neck seeming to extenuate the man’s build and muscles.
‘Welcome, Sir, who is it you have an appointment with?’ The doorman asked, his voice taking on a minor degree of politeness and civility.
‘Mr Leopold.’ Roman whispered as if he were a field mouse, although he didn’t look at the doorman as he replied.
