    Chapter 36

It was already eight o’clock in the evening when Katrina decided to go home. Xavier was already waiting for her when she arrived. He tried to call her around six o'clock, but she turned her phone off. If he would ask her about it, she'll just tell him that her phone's battery ran out. She's still so deeply hurt that she hated to talk to him.

He was standing in the porch, holding his phone, when her car pulled over in the driveway. He strode towards the vehicle and opened the passenger’s door.

Hey, you’re looking great! He looked ecstatic when he saw her. He stared at her with admiration in his eyes, as if mesmerized by her new appearance.

So her expensive makeover paid off, huh. The look on his face somehow made her feel better.

Thanks. Her response was lukewarm. She clipped a lock of hair behind her ear, trying so hard to smile.

So how’s your day? he sweetly asked. Then, he assisted her to get off the car.

Swallowing silently, she kept her emotions tucked in. But it was hard for her to act as if she was okay when she's not. The thought that Xavier was seeing another woman was still bugging her. Her exasperation only worsened at the act of sweetness he's showing her.

Was he also this sweet with Janine?

Oh God, she could see gore and blood!

He was acting as if nothing was wrong, but she knew that he went to see another woman this morning, and he got caught.

Well, she was just hoping that her voice won’t falter, I went out and spent your money, she meant that to spite him, but he looked glad that she, finally, spent his goddamned money.

He only laughed, as if amused. It’s good that you went out to have some fun, Kat. He closed the door when she disembarked from the car. You deserve it.

Her lips curved in a sarcastic smile. I just spent a quarter of a million today, Xavier. How's that for throwing your money away? Aside from splurging bucks in the salon, , she also bought a brand new Hermes bag. It was her first time to buy a very expensive item on impulse. It still made her feel uncomfortable, but it wasn't her money, anyways, and most of all, she did that to spite her cheating husband.

He just shrugged his broad shoulders as if it wasn't a big deal.

I'm serious, Xavier. She faced him, scouring every inch of reaction on his face. You see this? She showed him the Hermes bag that she was holding in her hand. This costs two fifty grand.

He scrutinized the fiery red Hermes bag with his eyes. She didn't see the kind of reaction that she's expecting from him. Nice color, by the way, he said, still sporting a pleasant smile.

You're not upset? She peered at him with disbelief in her eyes.

His arms snaked around her waist, pulling her body next to his. Her soft breasts crushed against his hard chest. Honey, I'm not upset. You can buy everything you want. I told you that, right?

She just stared at him, tongue-tied.

I’m more worried that this house might have been boring you already. You need to go out sometimes. His eyes hovered on her face. I like your new look, by the way, he whispered softly, admiring her amazing makeover. You look smashing hot, Kat. I haven't thought you can be this gorgeous. No pun, but you look like a Hollywood royalty.

Hmp! She gave him a sullen glance, pouting her lips. As if I don’t know that you're just flattering me. But her heart swelled with his compliment.

God, this was a torture. The more she was restraining her true feelings, the more she was dying inside.

Her vision became hazy. She already wanted to cry, but she tried to hide her hurting from him.

He was in his usual jolly self, showering her with heart-warming praises which she doubted if he really meant, or probably not, and even if she tried so hard to stop her heart from admiring him and loving him despite what she’d found out, she couldn’t help not to.

I am not. He cupped her face, forcing her to look at him in the eyes.

She bit her lower lip. The stupid her really wanted to believe him. Xavier had a really sweet tongue which could spew words she's dying to hear, but she knew the truth. She knew he was just flattering her, but deep inside, he didn't mean it. He wouldn't cheat on her if he really meant his words.

Katrina just took a deep breath.

He planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. The kiss was so romantic that her heart melted.

Ugh! She's such a pathetic, hopeless fool for letting him play with her feelings.

She snapped at him, pushing him away from her. Maybe I should shop more often then. The ugly scene where she saw him kissing another woman flashed back on her mind, and she cringed inside. It haunted her, breaking her heart again. It instantly changed her mood. How about I'll make this a daily routine, huh? she said, subtly annoyed. Her voice was hard and curt. She had to purse her lips just to stop her eyes from stinging.

Well… He just shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. There's no problem with me, Katrina. I'll have to increase the funds in your card then.

Xavier… She freed herself from his hold. She couldn't bear the conflicting emotions inside her chest that was threatening to come out in the open. Her throat was aching. The corners of her eyes started to water.

Why did he have to be this sweet? It made the situation more difficult for her to handle.

She hated this. She hated to pretend.

Yep? What's wrong, Kat? he sounded worried. He looked at her as if checking if she's just okay.

I really need to go to the bathroom now, she quickly answered, shoving him, clearing her way. I'm really about to pee now. She didn't wait for him to answer. She hastily walked away from him, going inside the mansion, running to their room.

She rushed to the bathroom. The moment she shut the door behind her and made sure that it was locked, her tears started to stream down her face. She broke into sobs. She felt so full inside that she had to cry and bawl her eyes out to let go of the angst that was torturing her. Her shoulders were shaking, but her hand covered her mouth to stifle her sobs, so she cried in silence. The four corners of the bathroom became a witness to the misery of a brokenhearted soul. And when she thought that she had no more tears to shed, she washed her face in the sink.

Crying was really a good form of release because after that, she felt a little better. At least, she could breathe evenly now, though her eyes were still watery.

She looked in the mirror after wiping her face with a towel and she saw her reflection. Her eyes were puffy red.

Sighing, she pitied her appearance. She looked miserable. She just ruined her makeover by crying buckets of tears. But she really cannot help not to when she's dying inside.

She took a series of deep breaths, trying to compose herself.

Xavier cannot see her looking like this. She didn't want him to dig on the reason why she's upset. She's still not ready to confront him should the situation calls for it. So she washed her face again, cleaning the remnants of tears in her eyes.

She stiffened when someone knocked at the door.

    Katrina? It was her husband.

She swallowed hard. Ugh! She's not yet ready to face him.

I’ll just go to Mama's bedroom to check on her, okay?

Okay! she quickly replied. Take your time!

    Okay, hon...

That made her breathe a sigh of relief. Thank God, she still had time to fix her sorry self.

When Xavier returned to their room after checking his mother, Katrina was already comfortably lying in bed, tucked under the duvet.

The soft mattress moved as he joined her in the bed. Kat… Xavier whispered in her ear. His hand slid in her waist, embracing her from behind, spoon-fashion.

She did not respond, pretending to be asleep.

She didn't want to face him. She didn't want him to see the hurt that was still staining her eyes.

She really cannot dismiss the thought that she saw him with another woman. His betrayal really rocked her world, like her most hated horror movie that kept on haunting her.

He started kissing her nape. His lips sensuously darting on her skin, setting tongues of desire to lick her sensitive nerves.

She shut her eyes hard, fighting the squirming of her senses and the melting of her body as he seduced her.

God, resisting Xavier wasn't an easy thing to do. But her pride was stubborn enough to quell the flicks of desire in her body.

He pushed his groin against her ass, and his steely erection poked in the soft mound of her butt cheek, digging in her skin.

Her pussy excitedly clenched in wild abandon. Blood pounded exhilaratingly in her nerves.

Shit! This can't be! She had to resist him. She had to make her body cooperate with her mind.

    Kat... honey...

Honey yourself! She secretly rolled her eyes. She remained silent and stilled her body.

She was doing her best to ignore him, but she felt the flares of desire start to burn her resolve. She was slowly melting as his lips explored her bare flesh.

She knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to make love to her, like he did every night. It had been a routine. He wouldn’t end the night without taking her. And there would be another round early in the morning.

But did he really make love to her? Or was it just pure sex for him?

And that woman named Janine Mascardo... was Xavier having sex with her, too?

God, the idea was really depressing.

The thought that he had been with another woman, and that he was cheating on her, tortured her soul. She’s getting paranoid. It wasn’t a good thing, alright, but his infidelity totally poisoned her mind. It was enough to kill her mood to have sex with him. Even if her body was dying to.

Kat... His lips traced her shoulder. His hand on her waist crept to her breast and fondled her. His movements were starting to get more aggressive.

She moved, as if she was stirred from sleep. Xavier… she lazily murmured.

He tried to flip her body so that she would face him, but she resisted. She remained in her position.

    What? she groaned.

He licked her earlobe with his tongue.

Her body involuntarily squirmed as rush of decadent sensations plagued her senses.

Damn! He really knew how to turn her on. That part of her body was really sensitive.

I want you... he whispered in her ear.

She shut her eyes hard. Just like what she thought. But he won’t get what he wanted tonight. He just couldn’t use her body if he wanted to. She’s not a fucking sex doll. She had feelings and emotions, too. And she’s not in the mood to satisfy his sexual needs. Not after he cheated on her.

Uhmmm… I’m not feeling well, she whispered throatily. The words were difficult to say, but still, she managed to verbalize her alibi.

But he didn’t stop. He continued to tease her body with his lips, kissing her nape, tracing her shoulder.

She twisted her shoulder to drive his lips away. He had to stop. Any moment now, she might give in to him already. He was just fucking irresistible.

She sighed. Please, Xavier, her voice became hard. I’m not really feeling well. I want to rest. I hope you understand. She dug her face in the soft pillow. She could feel her eyes starting to water and she hated it.

His body stiffened. Then, he blew some air. Finally, he stopped. Thank God!

She fought the urge to flip over and look at him.

Sorry… he whispered softly. His palm ran over her back, giving her a light massage. Are you alright? he asked. He tried to make her face him, but she resisted him again. I will get you a medicine…

She was quick to stop him. This is nothing serious, Xavier, she said, still eyes closed. Don’t bother anymore. I only need to rest and sleep… I’ll feel better tomorrow.

Are you sure? he still sounded worried. He ran his palm on her neck, then, her forehead, feeling her temperature. Do you have a fever?

    She shook her head.

    How about headache?

She shut her eyes hard in frustration. Could he stop being so sweet and caring? He was just making things worse.

Goodnight, Xavier… she said instead, ending their conversation. She yawned, an exaggerated one, coiled her body like a fetus, and pretended to fall asleep, dismissing him.

    Okay, goodnight, Katrina...

She heard his soft intake of breath. She felt him kiss her on the back of her head. Then, he held her tight in a sweet embrace, as she pretended to be already soundly asleep.

But she wasn’t able to sleep that night. Too many thoughts flooded her restless mind. And it was driving her nuts.

Would Xavier break up with her tomorrow or one of these days? Or would he wait until she gives birth to his heir, and then, quickly dispose her? What's really her role in his life?

Her head throbbed from thinking too much. As early as now, her heart was already wrenching from the ugly possibilities that might happen in the near future.

Oh God, why did she have to see him cheat on her? Why? If
