This book is in memory of and dedicated to my dear and treasured friend Lynne Reeves. You were such an encouragement to me as we worked together writing our first two books. I cherish the fun memories we made as we were writing, especially the time we were in my living room and a mouse ran across the floor in front of us! We both screamed and jumped up into our chairs. Then we couldn’t stop laughing! We took advantage of each chance we could get together and work. One week we worked on writing during the county fair as the kids were busy with their projects and horses. One of my sweetest memories, though, is at your kitchen table drinking your homemade lemonade! It was hard to do this one without you, and I put it off for a couple of years, but I know you are glad I didn’t give up. You showed me that God is in the details. We learned so much together! I miss you. I am thankful for the good times we shared together as friends! See you soon.
In memory of Lynne Laurine Reeves, 1961-2009

INTRODUCTION
Every day is a gift that we have been given, and that’s something to celebrate! God blesses us daily with so many good things. My desire in writing this book is to encourage you to celebrate those good things with your mate, your children, your church family, and your friends. Hopefully these ideas will help you, and even maybe spark a few ideas of your own!
God has given me a wonderful soul mate to celebrate life with. The saying Come grow old with me, the best is yet to be
is so true. I have only just begun to realize that. Make each day special for your mate by doing the little extras that let them know you love and care for them. Take that evening walk together. Men, check out her honey-do list. Plan a weekend getaway together. Say I love you
every day!
Children are a heritage of the Lord (Psalm 127:3a) . . . and so much fun. They love to celebrate! Sometimes our lives as parents and grandparents can be so busy that we need to make sure we spend time with the children God has blessed us with. We can show them that God is in the details, the little things in life all around us that are so easily overlooked in our hectic lives. Plan a campout, enjoy a snow day, or just have a fun family night together. They grow up too fast. Believe me!
Celebrating life with our church family is such a good way to encourage and strengthen each other as believers in our faith. Plan to get together with others to find out what is happening in their lives. Laugh out loud with each other. Cry with each other and be there to listen. Cuddle someone’s baby. Listen to an older person talk about the good old days. Celebrate the good things God is doing in the life of your church.
Friends are the best. You can be yourself around your friends. Plan fun activities you can do with your friends. Make some memories you will treasure for years to come. Get together and make homemade ice cream and fresh baked pie! Plan an evening to carve pumpkins together, roast hotdogs, and go on a country hayride. You know you want to, and here are some great ideas, so just do it!
Maybe you really don’t feel like celebrating. Maybe life doesn’t seem all that grand. It is hard to celebrate life if you don’t have life—true life in Christ. There is hope. God offers new life, abundant life through His Son Jesus Christ. John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
You can know it in your head, but you need to believe it in your heart. It is simply faith in Christ alone and what He has done for us.
Romans 6:23 says, For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
When Jesus died on the cross, He took the punishment for our sin. He conquered death and rose to life. He offers us the free gift of eternal life with Him in heaven one day. All we have to do is receive that gift. Ephesians 2:8–9 tell us that For it is by grace you have been saved through faith—and this is not from yourselves—it is the gift of God. Not by works, so that no one can boast.
Forever in heaven one day with Him. Now that is something to celebrate!
I hope this book encourages you to draw close to God and also to those people He has put in your life. It might take a little extra work on your part, but it will be worth it! God is always good, and you are always loved. Every day is a gift, and we get to choose how we live it. Let’s celebrate life!
DON’T FORGET THE PURSUIT ONCE you are married. God is constantly pursuing us and drawing us to Himself because He loves us and wants to spend time with us. He is our example to keep pursuing the one you love!
1 Cor. 14:1 Pursue love!
AFTERNOON GETAWAY
Theme: Take time to stop, look, and listen to each other. Enjoy God’s creation around you.
Verses to share and meditate on:
Psalm 19:1–3, The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.
Genesis 1:1
Psalm 8:1
Psalm 146:5–6
Romans 1:19–20
Nehemiah 9:6
Isaiah 45:12
Psalm 135:5–7
Plan some time to go to a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of jobs or children. Talk and listen to each other about your individual needs and things that are happening in each of your lives.
Make sure you find a place that is relaxing, such as a lake or park. Hold hands and enjoy each other’s company as you listen and look at God’s creation around you.
Take lounge chairs or a blanket to stretch out on. Bask in the warmth of the sun and in each other.
If you are near the zoo, go and watch the animals as you walk and talk to each other.
If the weather is cold, you can still go to a park and sit in the car and talk and reflect as you enjoy God’s creation around you. Maybe there will be some ducks or geese on the lake or a deer or two walking through the trees. Bring birdseed to feed to the birds and squirrels. Take a quick, brisk walk in the snow.
Even if it’s only for an hour or over your lunch break, plan ahead and do it!!
Wives: Pack a picnic lunch or snack with something to drink. Think of special ways to impress your husband, like bringing him his favorite candy bar or piece of pie or cake. Let him know you are still sweet on him.
Husbands: Wrap a small gift or buy her flowers to give her to show her how much you care. Even a small inexpensive gift will make her feel loved and very special. Just let her know it is wonderful spending a few minutes together on your afternoon getaway.
