    ––––––––

This place is huge, almost as big as the Control Center, Stargun said in amazement as he and his friend crossed the Games Lobby. The other lobbies weren't this big were they, Flic?

The ones we visited weren't. The star fighter saw Flic's face break into a smile. The Games Directory Lobby is larger than most of the other ones in the computer because it has lots of sub-directories. One of them is your home program and now all we have to do is find the right one.

"So how do we know which of them is the right one? It could take us forever to find my Star Fighter game in here! There's so many portals to look at. The expression on Stargun's face changed from a frown to one of hope. Hey! I wonder if I could use my radar to find it now I'm nearly home?"

Slowly the star fighter turned the disc shaped radar which sat on top of his bullet shaped body, but after a few moments the disc stopped.

It's no good! he stated glumly. Although it's working again the signals are too weak to make any sense.

Never mind Stargun, we'll just have to do it the hard way.

Stargun stared unhappily at the portals surrounding the lobby and when he turned back to Flic he saw his friend still had a grin on his face.

I suppose you mean we have to examine every single portal until we find the right one? The star fighter's eyes brightened and he straightened the blaster which hung from the holster at his side. Okay Flic if that's the way it's got to be we'd better get started.

Stargun stomped quickly to the nearest portal, knowing Flic would have no trouble keeping up with him as his friend's body hovered just above the floor and could move at the same speed as the star fighter's spindly legs. They had unsuccessfully examined about a third of the portals when Stargun stopped and leaned against the wall between two of the doorways. His body slid slowly to the floor.

This is useless Flic—absolutely useless! he groaned. We'll never find my home game, there's just too many portals.

Come on Stargun, don't give up now. Where's the fearless star fighter spirit gone?

Stargun knew his friend was trying to cheer him up but somehow Flic's words didn't help.

I'm all right when I can see what I'm fighting Flic, he explained in a low voice. It's this wandering around that makes me tired. It's all right for you, as soon as the power goes off, back you go to your file tracing job in the Control Center, but even if we do find my home game before that happens, who's to say all my friends won't have forgotten me?

So you're just going to sit there and give up are you? I thought you had more go in you Stargun. Anyway you're talking rubbish, how could your friends have forgotten you? You said yourself several of them came back from the floppy drive and you remembered them didn't you? Well it will be exactly the same for you.

It's not only that Flic, I've been gone too long, much longer than any of the others. Even though I like seeing the other programs on the computer I still miss my home and friends. I don't see how we'll ever find the Star Fighter game before the power goes off and I get disintegrated. Stargun's misery made him look smaller as he slumped lower down the wall.

You mean after everything we went through, all the danger and difficulty of getting back to the hard disc from the floppy, you're going to sit there and give up when you're practically sitting on top of the Star Fighter portal? Flic glared at him but even his friend's anger couldn't give Stargun the will to carry on. Flic continued in the same angry voice. Go on then, sit there and wait for the guards to catch you, but I'm going to find the Star Fighter portal if it's the last thing I do!

Miserably Stargun watched his friend stamp off to the next portal, then on to the one after that.

Flic had moved some distance away when Stargun saw him stop suddenly as the portal in front of him began to glow, and knowing this meant the game behind it was about to be accessed, he pulled himself hopefully to his feet. Maybe his luck was changing and the game was his home one!

Quickly he moved to stand beside the motionless Flic.

Is it mine Flic—is it? He asked breathlessly as his friend spelt out the name above the entrance.

S-T-A-R F-I-G-H-T-E-R—it's your game Stargun! It's the Star Fighter game and its being accessed! Flic was bouncing up and down with excitement at the thought that their long search was over.

The words reached the star fighter in a muffled state and at first Stargun stared stupidly at the glowing portal, then slowly he turned and carefully asked.

Honestly Flic? You're sure it's mine? You wouldn't just say that to cheer me up would you?

I wouldn't do that to you Stargun, I promised I'd get you home and I've kept my word. This is the portal to the Star Fighter Game.

At long last Stargun allowed himself to believe Flic and his eyes lit up with excitement.

Oh Flic, I don't know how to thank you. I thought we had no chance of finding my home amongst all the other games. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    With these words Stargun grasped
