Author

Jessica Kelly

Author.  Dreamer.  Entrepreneur. That's how Jessica Kelly describes herself.  Just like the main character in her first book, Trick Play, Jessica believes that hard work is the key to success.  Luckily, though, creating new characters and new plot twists doesn't feel like work to her!  Jessica has always had a passion for writing, and she has dreamed of becoming a successful author for more years than she can count. So what about the "Entrepreneur" part? That proves just how serious Jessica is about turning her dream into reality.  Her goal isn't to write a book or two in her spare time.  Instead, she's focused on building a successful writing career from the ground up.  She's not content to JUST have a dream.  She's willing to do whatever it takes to make it come true. Jessica began living the dream the moment she started writing Trick Play.  When she's not dreaming up new story ideas, this native Floridian can be found spending quality time with friends and family, soaking up the sun on the beach, and -- of course -- reading. Jessica loves hearing from her readers.  Connect with her on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/jessicakellyauthor or on Twitter at http://twitter.com/WritingJessica

Out of Bounds - Jessica Kelly

    Chapter 1

Damn it!  I knew this wasn't over!  Why the hell did I listen to you?!

Heath could only watch as his older brother, Jackson, stormed around the living room.  He didn't know how Jackson had done it, but he'd managed to turn his private jet around, arrange for a car service, and make it back to Heath's house before Heath had time to drive home from the Stingrays' facility.

I don't give a rat's ass about your macho ego anymore! Jackson shouted.  I'm your brother and your agent, and from now on, I'm in charge.  And don't even think about telling me that I'm overreacting!

Compared to his brother, Heath looked like the picture of composure.  But the truth was, he felt anything but composed.  The words from the note kept echoing in his head.  One of us is leaving in a body bag—and it won't be me.

Heath glanced out the window for about the millionth time since he'd arrived home.  He couldn't help it.  On his drive home, it had suddenly dawned on him that it wasn't really that hard to figure out where he lived.  All someone would have to do is wait outside the Stingrays' facility after practice, then follow his Porsche home.  He usually drove home with the convertible top down.  He stuck out like a sore thumb.  He'd never thought about it before, but he'd made it way too easy for someone to track him down.

Someone.  The same someone who had written that note.  Whoever someone is, he or she wants me dead.

Had that someone followed him home today?  Were they parked outside watching him through the window?  Had they followed him home before?

Are you listening to me?! Jackson bellowed, yanking Heath right out of his panicked thoughts.

Jackson, you have to chill out—

    Hell no I don't!

Heath jumped up from the couch and grabbed his brother by the shoulders.  Jackson may have been older, but Heath was bigger.  With his tall, strong, broad NFL physique, he could've grabbed King Kong by the shoulders and shaken some sense into him.

You have to stop screaming, Heath growled.  Screaming won't solve this.  If we're going to come up with a solution, we need to be able to think clearly.

How can you be so calm?! Jackson shouted.

I'm not! Heath growled.  I'm fucking scared to death!

Jackson's eyes widened in obvious shock, and even Heath was surprised by the words that had just come out of his mouth.  Before this stalker, he couldn't remember the last time he'd been scared.  He wasn't sure he'd ever actually admitted to being scared in his entire life.  He'd been born with an amazing ability to push fear aside.  That was one of the big reasons he'd become a football superstar.  Even though he'd spent his life being tackled, he was never afraid to get up, jog back to the huddle, and run another play.

From the look on his face, Heath could tell that Jackson was trying to think of something to say—anything that could make his little brother feel better.  But before he had a chance to do it, his phone rang.

This is Jackson Montgomery, he answered, sounding remarkably businesslike for a man who'd been yelling his head off like a maniac just a few moments ago.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, he said as Heath looked out the window yet againYes, we can certainly come down there right now.  I agree, I want to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

Jackson hung up the phone, tapped a couple of buttons, and a few seconds later said, Chris, it's Jackson Montgomery.  I need you to turn around and come pick my brother and me up.  Yes, the same place you dropped me off at.  OK, see you in five minutes.

Where are we going? Heath asked, almost afraid of the answer.

To the FBI's San Diego Field Office.  I put in a call to them on the car ride over here, Jackson answered matter-of-factly.  Luckily, they're taking this just as seriously as we are.

    Chapter 2

Thirty minutes later, Jackson's driver screeched to a stop in front of an imposing building.  There was only a small sign out front—San Diego Field Office, FBI.  Just looking at the building made him feel uneasy.  It wasn't the building itself—it looked like any other giant office building—but, rather, what was inside.  Between being born into the Montgomery family and playing professional football, Heath had experienced a lot in his life, but even in his wildest dreams, he'd never imagined dealing with the FBI.

Let's get this over with, he muttered as they walked into the lobby and signed in at the main desk.

A few minutes later, a man named Agent Greenberg walked into the lobby, shook their hands, escorted them into the elevator, and led them up to the fifth floor.

The last thing I want to do is sound unprofessional, but I have to say it—you're one heck of a football player, Heath, Agent Greenberg said with a smile.

You're a Stingrays' fan? Heath asked in disbelief.  He'd assumed that FBI agents were all work and no play.  They don't have time to watch football, right? he asked himself.

Of course I am! Agent Greenberg exclaimed.  My Dad started taking me to Stingrays' games when I was in Kindergarten.  It was our boys' afternoon out time, the fifty-something FBI agent with salt and pepper hair beamed.  It's a real pleasure to meet you, Heath, even though I'm sure you hate every second of having to be here.

Is that why you're taking on my case? Heath teased.  Because I play for the Stingrays?

No way, Agent Greenberg said with a serious tone as he led Heath and Jackson into an interview room.  "You're a high-profile guy, Heath.  This is simply a resources game.  We have more tools and staff to track your stalker down than the local police department does.  Of course, we'll share any and all information with San Diego PD, but between your celebrity status and your family's connections, your case needs every resource we can give
