About this ebook

One snowy evening, a car wreck in front of his toy store triggers terrible memories for Jake. Suddenly, he is in the midst of another winter storm—and another accident, one that not everyone walked away from. When he returns to the present, Jake is on the ground, being watched over by a guardian angel in the form of a kind man named Eli. Eli is no stranger to panic attacks and PTSD, and he’s happy to help Jake get home—where the weather forces him to remain for the night. For Jake, it could be the first step toward a life free from fear and loneliness.

There are many reasons for not liking Christmas, and the range explored in this year’s Advent Calendar is fascinating. Quite often the rationale is due to a bad memory, and that is also the case in ‘Guardian Angels’. Jake has no problem with the holiday per se, but what happened four years ago still haunts him to the point of frequent nightmares, migraines, and even panic attacks. This is the story of how he begins a healing process that will hopefully give him a chance for happiness again.

Jake has tried to deal with the PTSD from a horrific accident, one that took his lover and his sister, on his own. But what he really needs is a break – or maybe a guardian angel? That is certainly how he sees Eli when they first meet, yet Jake thinks he does not deserve someone as nice as Eli. But the better they get to know each other, the clearer it becomes to Jake that they were probably meant to be together.

Eli is an amazing guy. He does not pity Jake – which would be just about the worst thing he could do - but instead supports and quietly helps him. Luckily Eli knows what to do when flashbacks strike. His interest in Jake quickly moves from “just helping a stranger back to his feet” to “I’d like to get to know this guy better”. The result is a charming romance and the best Christmas both men have experienced in quite a while.

If you like Christmastime romances, if you think that two men brought together by coincidence and a shared understanding of disaster deserve a chance at happiness, and if you’re looking for a sweet read, then you will probably like this short story.
