Chapter 1

What do you mean I was the worst date of your life?

Kendra jerked, startled at the sound of the low male pissed off voice rumbling from her porch. She managed to keep hold of the phone pressed to her ear, but her purse slipped free to land on the worn wood planks with a dull thud. Her Advil bottle broke free from the spilled contents only to roll directly to a pair of worn, black leather boots she hadn’t seen in three years. Dallas McKenna. His large body lean and tall pressed against the side of her house hidden by the shadows. A pair of black sunglasses hid the chocolate brown eyes she knew were glaring at her.

Are you okay? Susan asked, concern filtering through Kendra’s cell phone.

She so didn’t have an answer to that.

Sorry, something on the porch startled me, she said trying to swallow past the sudden lump in her throat.

Dallas reached down, picked up the bottle of Advil and gave it a quick once over before pulling his sunglasses down the bridge of his nose to inspect her.

So are we still on for tomorrow night? I’ve heard Tuesdays at the Rogue are fantastic. Susan continued to chatter away, completely oblivious to the unfolding crisis.

Kendra licked her lips when Dallas cocked an eyebrow at her. Her body instantly responded to his silent command to hang up the phone and pay attention to me. Breathing became an effort and her grip on the phone grew tenuous as her palm dampened. Despite the events of three years ago, paying attention to his body was one thing she’d always enjoyed.

Ken, are you still there?

I’ll have to get back to you about tomorrow night. Something’s come up and I… I’ll give you a call.

Susan’s response was lost on Kendra, even with the soft dial tone buzzing her ear she didn’t press the end button. She needed more courage to do this and no time to muster any up.

I know she’s gone, I can’t hear her yammering anymore, he drawled.

Shit.

Now lacking the shield of her cell phone, Kendra lowered her hand and plastered on a smile. Hi. What else to say to him? You’re back in town?

Dallas took a step forward and she had to fight the urge to retreat halfway across the porch. Instead, Kendra tilted her head back and managed to look him in the eye.

Pretty obvious I’m back. Should be asking me why.

When she took a deep breath, she could smell his unique mix of aftershave and soap. Her nipples hardened at the memory of her face buried into his neck as he pounded his cock into her. They’d only had the one night together—the end of their long friendship— but she remembered everything. Every detail forever etched in her mind.

The worst date of her life.

Dallas took another step forward so he was now only an inch away from her. A shiver ripped down her back and moisture began to pool between her legs. He was several inches taller than her and every bit of him was annoyed.

Okay I’ll bite. Why? she whispered, her voice shaking slightly.

She tried to relax, and look anywhere but the wide expand of his chest. Or his face.

He swayed a bit toward her, a small smirk twitching on his lips. "Aren’t you going to invite me in? I’d hate to embarrass you in front of your neighbors. Mrs. Smyth still lives next door, right? Likes to
