Very little is known about Homer. Due to this lack of information, many specialists have doubted his existence. There are therefore two different viewpoints regarding Homer’s life:
Those that believe Homer existed. The see him as a bard; a poet who told stories, having lived between the 8th and 7th century B.C. They also believe him to be the author of The Iliad and The Odyssey.
Those who don’t believe he existed and that the name Homer was just the name given to a group of bards who together wrote the two works for which he is credited.
