The Sign of the Quatrefoil

About this ebook
As the title may suggest, the number 'four' is of prime importance in the book, and although the author does not follow a numerology based concept, it's certainly the essence driving the book’s content. Paul enters into the theme of humanity's endless quest for a fifth element (The Holy Grail, The Philosopher's Stone, The Emerald Tablet), and that the reason we have not yet attained that level is because this quintessential 'fifth plane' can only be created or emerge when we first focus on bringing together the 'four' intrinsic parts of our being.
Paul's language is clear and concise. He explores the sensitive and burning topic of 'four' forming the foundation of patterns and phenomena, past, present and future, with a variety of examples from nature, science, time, esotericism, ancient culture and humanity. His message is that we are now at the stage where we must search for this fourth component. Like three triangles leaning in towards each other awaiting the 'fourth' piece to create a separate pyramid - our fourth part will complete the whole, and yield a fifth, separate entity; a Golden Age where we are all fully accomplished beings.
It teaches some basic practical exercises in the release of materialism, breathing, visualization and meditation. The objective is to determine in what way any set of four may be drawn together harmoniously to produce a new fifth unit, which is greater than the sum of its parts. It is often the case that when we identify a set of four elements, steps, objects, feelings, ideas, states or beliefs, we find that either we are missing one of them in our lives, or else we have failed to join the pieces together coherently.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Paul Young was born in Melbourne, Australia, on the 17th March 1953. After leaving school he spent a couple of years in the opal fields of Lightning Ridge in New South Wales, before moving his home base to Brisbane, Queensland. His upbringing and education were along traditional Christian lines, yet from an early age he was drawn to mysticism and Eastern religions. Initially this tendency manifested in his choice of reading materials and the poetry he wrote himself; increasingly it has become a focal point in practical life. Paul belongs to the Rosicrucian Fraternity known as AMORC and holds a number of qualifications: •Certified as a level III Reiki practitioner (2002) •Certificate IV in Palliative Care and Conscious Dying (2003) •Diploma of the Writing School Australia (2003) •Certified TEFL English Teacher (2008) •Certified Law of Attraction Practitioner (2014) •Certified NLP Practitioner (2014) Paul's first book, The Sign of The Quatrefoil, was written without any formal training, but at the end of 2003 he obtained his Diploma from The Writing School of Sydney, with the intention of producing further books and magazine articles. In 2004 he self-published a novel titled ‘The Griffin in the Valley.’ A career in international trade and shipping has given him the opportunity to travel to many places in the world, and he has spent some years living and working in Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Thailand. These days he is easing into retirement from the corporate world and concentrating on his investigations into the paranormal and esoteric writings, with a particular emphasis on the relationship between humankind and the Sun.

Four into Five
While journeying through the course of a lifetime, the traveller encounters signposts and omens, which assist in choosing the appropriate gateways and pathways from the multitude that lie before them. This book is one such signpost. One that may catch the attention of the navigator who has paused at this point, to get their bearings and check directions for their particular destination.
The principles to be set forth here are not merely the fabrications of the writer. They are existing concepts which may have been overlooked by the reader in today’s hectic society, presented in such a way that they may be absorbed by anyone, regardless of their background and circumstances. The scientist will discern them in physics, the mystic may see them in the Qabalah and the words of the prophets, the student of history can find them in the teachings of the ancient Greek Philosophers, and the casual observer will be faced with them in nature and the world around us.
While it is entirely possible that the basic laws applied here may also prevail throughout the whole universe, and even on other planes of existence, we will confine our discourse to the World as we know it. Our aim is to see how humankind is affected by certain fundamental truths, and how we may practically apply them to our benefit.
At the outset, let us define the Four Principles that will lay the foundation for the pages to follow. While it will be immediately evident that the number four is going to feature prominently here, this should not be misconstrued as a study in numerology. Readers interested in pursuing that topic will find ample works on it elsewhere. Our focus is on the number of parts that constitute our wholeness.
The Four Principles
The First: Our world is organized by the number Four
The power of the number Four is apparent in the World around us, in Nature and in us as Human Beings. Several illustrations of this truth will be made later in the chapter. Generally it can be said that Four Quarters make up one whole entity, and that entity can be then always be contemplated from its four different aspects.
The Second: The sum of Four Quarters yields a Fifth separate Entity
It is often said that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and as we explore the power of Four in our lives, we will see that as something or someone becomes complete by drawing four parts together, a greater fifth result emerges. Here we are not so much considering situations where four ingredients lose their individuality, such as flour + water + eggs + sugar = cake. Rather we are looking at instances where four components of equal significance combine to reveal a new entity.
If we cut four triangles from cardboard, they are just geometric shapes by themselves. But if we stand them up and lean them inwards toward each other we can form a pyramid. Each triangle continues to exist in itself, yet we have created a further new object from them. It can still be said that we have four individual items, and simultaneously it may be claimed that we have a fifth item, even though it is the result of its four quarters.
The Third: A Human Being, when complete, will attain a Fifth State
When a person has realised and activated the four parts of their existence, they become a Fully Accomplished Being. Most people alive today have yet to reach fulfilment. Although the
