(TO SAY NOTHING OF THE  MUMMY THAT WAS AND THE CAT IN THE JAR)

A short tale of mummies, werewolves, and well-preserved felines set in the world of the Parasol Protectorate.

Interesting. I'd have liked to have read something positive about Cairo/Egypt; kind of a missed opportunity there for describing good, unique food, spectacular artifacts...a tip of the hat, as it were. There's intrigue and action. The main in the story is quite a snob so it's hard to empathize with the situations or even root for him very hard. It's quick and entertaining, well-written.

Synopsis: Alessandro Tarabotti and his valet, Floote, are on a mission in Egypt with his aunt's cat that they want mummified, They meet an acquaintance and his sister who are also visiting the country. Alessandro is actually one of the Templars who is charged with keeping vampires and werewolves in check. The acquaintance is charged with doing the exact opposite.Review: A pretty good tale about the occult and an introduction to some of the characters in the Parasol Protectorate.

A short story prequel to the Parasol Protectorate series and my introduction to this alternate universe. I liked it, but suppose I might have enjoyed it more if I'd been familiar with the actual novels. Not much of a story, but nicely written and intriguing characters and places. Now on to the first book of the series after this amuse bouche.

I noticed this one when I was posting a review of a different Carriger story earlier today. This short story is of Alessandro, Floote, and Leticia, among others, and is set in Egypt. A nice adjunct to the Parasol Protectorate series, and every bit as much fun!1 like ·

First "book" of the year is actually a short story, but Gail is hosting a Parasolverse readalong leading up to the release of Reticence this summer, and the first story in the reading list is this short story about Alexia Tarabotti's father, Alessandro. It's a very fast read, and a much too short introduction to Alessandro Tarabotti, but Carriger manages to drop several clues about plot points that eventually show up in all three of her main series.

A fun little short story that gives you a bit of insight into Alessandro and Floote, as well as the Templar mission. Made me miss the Parasol Protectorate all over again.

Alexia's father was kind of a jerk and apparently I don't enjoy reading about him. This short didn't have the charm of the rest of the series, imo.

Hmmm, this is an interesting tidbit as far as it impacts the ongoing Parasol Protectorate, and as a momentary insight into Alexa's pa. It's not, alas, a super strong story in it's own right, but it does present intriguing possibilities.

This was a nice addition to the Parasol Protectorate. I would be delighted to read more of Alexander Tarabotti, too.

Alessandro Tarabotti is being villainous. I am not on his side.

A fun little prequel to the Soulless series, I enjoyed the novella, but am not sure how it would hold up for a reader not familiar with the series.

I didn't really see the point of this, but it was short and simple.
