DESIGNS
SMALL CUPBOARD
This is useful for medicine or as a general-purpose cupboard. It could be either completed in solid wood or veneered; or it could have a combination of both. To enable the rounded front corners to be worked it is necessary either to tongue on a square to the ends as shown to the left at B, or to thickness the ends, the thicknessing fitting in a rebate as shown to the right. The former method has the advantage that the joint does not show at the front. Whichever method is followed the rounding is done after assembling. D shows the carcase together before rounding.
Two rails are lap-dovetailed in at the top. That at the back fits flush with the rebate, whilst the side has staggered shoulders so that it fits around the thicknessed front (see B). The bottom stops short behind the door. After assembling the front corners are rounded, and if required, the ends are veneered. As the veneer has to be carried around the rather sharply curved corners, it is desirable to make a specially shaped caul to fit the curve. This should extend about 2 ins. along the flat side. When set the flat part can be put down either with a flat caul or with the hammer. In the former
