About this ebook

A Desperate Woman
Wiccan Haus is Raegan’s last hope for a miracle. Unable to produce an heir for her husband, she finds herself abandoned and penniless. Raised to be the perfect wife and mother, her failure has broken her spirit.

A Reviled Demon
Zamahl comes to Wiccan Haus seeking meditation and relief from the never-ending sexual urges of his incubus nature. Driven to seek their true mates, incubi are the ultimate one-night stand from which some females never recover. Shunned throughout the para realms, he doubts he will ever find a woman to satisfy the demon within.

A Forbidden Passion
When Raegan meets the copper-eyed stranger, a passion she never believed herself capable of awakens. Zamahl is horrified by his burning attraction to the timid little human. Humans, weak of mind and body, are to be avoided at all costs.

As the Summer Solstice celebrations continue, Raegan must decide what she really wants from life, and find the courage to claim it. She must overcome Zamahl’s doubts, the disapproval of one very unhappy were-tiger and the fickleness of Fate to find true happiness.

A Wiccan Haus Summer Solstice Story

To M. Thank you for supporting me as I follow my dreams.

    Chapter One

Raegan hung back as the other passengers pressed excitedly toward the small gangplank leading onto the ferry. The information provided with her booking confirmation had stated a maximum number of twelve guests were accepted at the Wiccan Haus each week, but her brain hadn’t correlated the information to the size of the boat, which would transport them to the island. The craft looked well-maintained; she’d just assumed it would be bigger.

She scanned the email she’d tapped out on her phone while waiting at the dock. Her ticket to the island had used the last of the money in her savings account, and she hoped Marshall wouldn’t be angry when he realized what she had spent it on. He’d slashed her allowance, and, although the running costs for her apartment were negligible compared to the house they’d shared, she still struggled to make ends meet. Not for much longer. Once I get this problem fixed, things will be back to the way they used to be. Ignoring her shaking hands, she thumbed the send key and tucked the phone into her oversized purse.

A crew member stood at the base of the gangplank, hand held out, and an encouraging smile on his face. Realizing her hesitation held them up, she gulped down the queasy feeling in her stomach and scurried forward. The man gave no indication she had a death grip on his fingers as he helped her aboard. A quick, nervous glance around the cabin revealed bench seats circling the space beneath the windows and eleven sets of curious eyes.

Never comfortable being the center of attention, she took a seat in the corner, pressing her back into the dark wood. She fumbled in her purse for a book. A collection of small boxes rattled together in the bottom of her purse, but Raegan had become an expert at ignoring them. Acknowledging their existence would stir the memories of that dreadful night three months ago when Marshall had burst the safe bubble of her existence for the past thirty years.

The crew cast the lines and the ferry glided into the still, blue waters of the ocean. Lowering her gaze to the book in her lap, she tried to focus on the words of the tattered paperback. It was an old favorite, the pages dog-eared from repeated readings. Books had always been her escape route when life became difficult. She knew all the tricks to help her blend into the background.

Tentative conversations started around her as the other guests discussed their expectations and hopes for the week to come. No one attempted to engage with Raegan, the book and her posture an effective shield. Although gifted at the minutiae of small talk, having been expected to flatter and entertain guests from a young age, she never volunteered information about herself. Her primary duty was to make dinner companions feel relaxed and important. Her mother deemed boasting about one’s achievements unattractive and unfeminine. One of many lessons she drummed into Raegan in her determination to mold her daughter in her own image.

Education had been necessary to provide enough knowledge to follow the political and business discussions around the dinner table. An interest in current affairs was acceptable, but development of personal opinions, particularly those differing from the conservative norms of their circle, had always been discouraged.

Raegan held no illusions about herself. Pretty enough to be acceptable but not so attractive as to draw undue attention. Her straight brown bob curtained a heart-shaped face.
