We all want to be happy, and yet, there are so many people who are not. I’ve been one of those people and maybe you have been too. I decided to write Blueprint for Happiness to share what I’ve learned over the years about creating true happiness.     PREFACE

    I want to share a wonderful find with you. As an author in constant search for the perfect writing environment, one that is free of daily chores and distractions, bill paying, trips to the store, and more, I was thrilled to discover the perfect place to write without interruption. I’ve found an author’s Nirvana on the Royal Caribbean International’s Monarch of the Seas. If you are an author or writer who has struggled, as I did, to find uninterrupted time to write, I suggest that you find your local RCI port and book a cruise. If your local port isn’t served by Royal Caribbean, then consider flying to a port that is served by RCI , or take a cruise on another line.

    You will find that you can write without interruption for as many hours a day as you choose. And as a reward for all that hard work, you will be treated to lovely food in beautiful surroundings, state of the art facilities, and easy, friendly conversation with other guests who are happy to share their thoughts and experiences with you.

    I want to thank Captains Rune Johnsen and Kjell Nordmo, Royal Caribbean International, and the wonderful Monarch crew, who make keeping this lovely Lady spotless and humming like a top, seem effortless; while still finding time to pamper their guests. It seems perfect to me that Blueprint for Happiness was largely written on this wonderful ship where guest happiness is the highest priority.

    CHAPTER 1

    INTRODUCTION TO HAPPINESS

    When I write a book, I write it for two reasons. One of the reasons is the pleasure of turning my thoughts into sentences that help to move ideas from my mind into yours. The other reason that compelled me to write this particular book is that I have dealt personally with the challenge of creating more happiness in my life, and in the process, discovered answers that I believe may be valuable to readers who are motivated to become happier people, too. So, the book you are starting to read today isn’t just a topic of interest to me. Blueprint for Happiness shares what I’ve learned in my own quest for greater happiness. Sharing this information with you is a happy thing, and I hope it will light the way for you to create more happiness in your life.

    The Journey

    In Chapter 3, I share with you the 9 steps that will help you to create more happiness in your life. But, before you can create more happiness in your life, you need to determine your current level of happiness. These personal explorations are detailed in Chapter 2, and will help you to measure where you are right now on the happiness scale, and to more clearly define what happiness means to you.

    As you read this book, you will be given opportunities to stop reading at different points and to answer a few questions about your life. Doing so will facilitate the change process, so I encourage you to take the time to answer those questions as they come up. That said, this is your book and this is your process so you are certainly free to experience this book in the way you choose.
