Chapter One
Through the flashing lights, smoke generated by the fog machines, and the screaming of the crowd, I watched her as she strummed the guitar in a quiet section of one of her hit songs. It was the lull before the storm when her crescendo of voice and guitar riff united to make the music that was loved by millions, but they don’t love her like I do.
No one did.
And soon, she would know just how much I love her.

Abbigail Lindsay felt the metal strings against the calluses on her fingers as they stroked her blue beast to purr out the chords before she hit into the final rhythm that would end Broken Wings.
It was a perfect song for her right now.
Her latest boyfriend, actor Zach Franc, had dumped her right before this show. She had left her dressing room in a mess after taking out her aggravation on everything within reach, but she turned the negative energy back into positive for the show. Her head bodyguard, Duke, had waited patiently outside her dressing room door, no doubt listening to her screams and cussing. He had kept everyone away from her while she vented.
He always stood by her, quietly supporting her. His look of concern touched her in an unusual way. She had been a young twenty-one-year-old busking on the street and playing in bars, but three years earlier, a record company had taken a chance on her. Their risk had paid off when she’d hit it big. Duke had been with her since the beginning.
She was now an international sensation. People loved her, and the tabloids loved her even more for her rocky relationships and her emotional outbursts. Her life had been out of control for so long, she often found herself crying in Duke’s strong arms. Over the years he had become more than her bodyguard. He was her friend and confidant. She held a true and genuine affection for him.
She wiped the sweat from her eyes with the back of her hand and gripped the microphone. Thank you, New York!
She glanced at her band members, and locked eyes with Kane, her bass guitarist. He grinned before sidling up to her.
‘Gone’?
he whispered in her ear. Gone
was their new, and as yet unreleased, song. No one outside their inner circle of band members and their manager had heard it. But she was feeling dangerously reckless tonight in light of the breakup with Zach.
She whispered back. Yeah, ‘Gone.’ Fuck it. Let’s give them something new to take home.
She turned back to the mic. Kane spread the word to Lyla, their drummer, and Heath, who was on second guitar, as he moved back into position.
Yo, New York!
she shouted into the mic. The crowd’s cheering reached an earsplitting roar as she spoke. It was as though they sensed something special was about to happen. We’ve got something special just for you tonight. This is a song…
She was interrupted by the beat of the drums as Lyla began to work the first beats into the song as a
