About this ebook

On June 12, 2016, the most horrendous mass shooting in US history and an unfathomable act of hate was directed at the LGBT community in Orlando. The horror of this tragedy reverberated around the world, leaving millions shocked and appalled at the senseless violence that destroyed so many innocent lives.

In a display of solidarity with the victims and survivors of the Pulse nightclub shooting, a group of LGBTQ+ and straight allies, from all across the globe, came together to produce a collection of poems in celebration of love and acceptance.

The resulting Love is Love Poetry Anthology is dedicated to the families and victims of the shooting and all proceeds of this work will be donated to Equality Florida’s Pulse Victims Fund.

In this small way, the authors, along with the readers who purchase this work, seek to contribute to the lives of those who still suffer from the consequences of the malice directed toward them, and offer some positivity and compassion in the face of such bigotry.

Love is Love Poetry Anthology - Lily. G. Blunt

    You Complete Me

    Loneliness is swept away

Only you can make my day

Vibrant eyes that see my soul

Enchanting smile to make me whole

Inking your name above my heart

So we will never be apart

Looks that tell me how you feel

Our lips meet, my breath you steal

    Velvet touches, secret pleasures

    Every moment, to be treasured.

    ©2016 L.M. Somerton, United Kingdom

    For Orlando

You didn’t give your life, you had no choice.

Hatred this sad day, was given a voice.

But stand up, we will to remember you,

You did not die in vain, we’ll make that true.

Live on we must, celebrating our Pride,

Remembering you, all of you who died.

You who survive, don’t fear, do not give in,

We must stand tall, for when we don’t, they win.

    Love is Love…

If it's deep like the Bering Sea,

like a coal mine in old Germany,

if it is love, what does it matter to you?

And why does it matter, if it is love?

If their kiss is soft like a feather,

strong like a storm, warm like sunny weather,

if it is love, what does it matter to you?

And why does it matter to you at all?

You're so righteous, your way's the only way

You're much holier than me but that's okay

You can rant, spit your hate and pray

Your God doesn't care if I'm straight or gay

Love is love is love is love is love….

If they share their thoughts, laughs and tears and their bed

If they care for each other like that,

if it is love, what does it matter to you?

And why does it matter to you

    at all?

You're so righteous, your way's the only way

You're much holier than me but that's okay

You can rant, spit your hate and pray

Your God doesn't care if I'm straight or gay

He doesn't give a shit if I'm straight or gay.

    Straight or Gay?

Am I straight or gay? I heard you say...

I ask why it bothers you anyway?

Why judge a man by what's in his heart?

Why judge another when you never walked their path.

I am a sensitive soul, who sometimes drinks herbal tea.

I am not playing a role, I am just me.

I like chick flicks, chocolate and gentle music at night...

Sometimes I choose to walk away instead of to fight

Am I straight or gay? I heard you say...

As I smile and think here we go again.

It's funny how we all seem to fit a mould...

As we grow uneducated from blind eyes of old.

I like scented candles, my house is never a mess.

I bare my feelings through words, I take pride in how I dress.

I feel for complete strangers, as if long lost friends...

Yet sometimes I feel I must hide or pretend.

Wouldn't it be interesting if we all dropped our guard?

If we revealed our souls, it really isn’t so hard.

If we all believed in better, let the masquerade go...

Planted seeds of hope and watched as they grow.

If there were no stereotypes, there were no fear.

If there was no shame to be found behind a tear.

I wonder would you think twice before you would say...

Tell me now are you straight or gay?

©2016 Steve Baldry, Ipswich, United Kingdom

And I Will Love You, Always

I hold your hand, we walk

    Blind to everyone but us

    Our fingers intertwined

We talk, we smile, we laugh

    In sunlight’s sparkling rays

And I will love you, always.

    Those people do not like

Our love, they do oppose it.

For two men is a sin.

    They will never admit,

There are so many good ways.

But I will love you, always.

To us our love does rhyme,

    In every single good way.

We smile, we are, we shine,

Our world is not a dull grey.

    The rainbow brightens our days.

And I will love you, always.

    Together we are strong,

For us it is not new

    To fight those who oppose.

Their fear of love so true.

    That prejudice we face.

    And I will
