    Who Was Dorothy Day?

    Dorothy Day began her lifelong work of helping hungry and homeless people when she was a young newspaper reporter in New York City. In 1933, during the Great Depression, she and her friend Peter Maurin started a newspaper called the Catholic Worker so they could tell the world that people needed food for the body and also food for the soul.
