About this ebook
A chapbook of semi-straightforward prose poetry. Beginner readers of poetry (like me) may find this work more accessible than others. My only goals are to express myself and include others in the process.

The Roof of My Mouth - Muel Thomas
In the tub
I remember pushing on your bellybutton
until mom told us to cut it out
You are now a lotus on amorphous ice,
balanced between the river and the air, sailing,
to playful places
I won’t ever know
or refuse to recall.
Things of that nature
Standing
on a
cinnamon dusted cliff,
toes
curling over the edge,
(not quite remembering how I got there),
I looked up
into the orange haze
and knew that I could fly.
So I unzipped my backpack,
removed a hacksaw,
and cut off my feet
(I didn’t think I’d need them anymore).
I cut through stringy tendons
bone like granite
the whole while noting how effortlessly my blood
soaked in with the dry dirt.
After this I didn’t feel much
like flying anymore.
I decided to return home.
Crawling down from the cliff,
back toward the city, I thought
about swimming pools and tax forms,
shaving cream and wine tasting.
I decided then
that I had to remember everything I had ever learned
so that I knew exactly what to forget.
I went through the task of carefully removing
each piece of knowledge
that
