About this ebook

Of all the eggs in all the world, Chester White had to lose the egg that could destroy Easter forever. Because inside the egg was a dangerous creature: the Jibbernosh. But it wasn’t his fault. Truly. But if he didn’t find it and return it to his land, it will be his fault. He finds Alice, a young girl who may be able to help him when he learns the egg is in her house. But Alice believes it’s just her overactive imagination. Flights of fancy...until Chester keeps showing up at the most inopportune time. With a family holiday dinner underway and the danger of the egg hatching, Alice reluctantly agrees to help Chester get the egg out of the house before it does.

Christopher Goodrum

Christopher Goodrum writes on the go. That is how he would describe how he prefers to write. He still prefers the old way of writing: putting pen to paper, even in this age of laptops and tablets, Starting with comedic skits for talent shows at a young age, Goodrum quickly found his knack for humor and the art of screwball comedies. His later years transformed his work from skits to dramatic plays, having scripted, performed, and directed an one-act play for the senior class of his high school as well as scripted original dialogue for his high school's Broadway Revue show. All the while, he begun his adventures in writing novels and teleplays. After a few years, he shifted his focus on honing his craft in writing novels: particularly in the genres of science fiction and fantasy. Goodrum is an entertainer at heart. A self-proclaimed jack-of-all-trades in this field. He acted and directed; sung and danced; composed, recorded, and performed musical scores; played the piano; briefly tried stand-up; and learned the art of improvisation. He performed in numerous plays and musicals, both in high school and for San Joaquin County in California, performing in front of the state's capital; and performed in two theme parks, including Paramount's Great America (now, California's Great America) and the Disneyland Resort. Through it all, writing was the one thing that was always present.

    Chapter One

    How Goes the Hunt?

Ben shot out of the front door like a champion greyhound on a sugar-high. There had only been a few occasions where Alice had seen that level of enthusiasm from her little brother. Christmas was certainly one of those occasions as he would race down the hallway as soon as he woke up to find all the presents underneath the tree that were for him. Her mother had warned him many times about running in the hallway, and throughout the house for that matter. She was always worried about him running into the corner of a wall, or trip and break an arm. But Ben never thought he would ever get hurt, so he often ran full speed throughout the house, jumping and climbing on furniture when her mother wasn’t looking.

Easter had that same thrill for Ben and the same concern for her parents. Luckily, her parents had full control as to what went into the eggs, or in this case, what didn’t go into the eggs. Along with the plastic multi-colored eggs many families’ preferred, the McBride family also kept it traditional, dying real eggs for the Easter egg hunt. The eggs were carefully scattered throughout the front yard with each location recorded and photographed as they were hidden. That way, her father could easily find out how many were not yet found, and where. The last thing they wanted was to find the eggs months later, and for the only reason the eggs were found were because of the strange, foul smell.

Real eggs were nice, but the plastic eggs filled with jelly beans, small pieces of chocolate, and quarters were what Ben was after. He hunted for those first. Although, he didn’t pass up the opportunity to collect the real eggs because Uncle Wally offered two dollars to the kid with the most eggs. And what 6-year-old didn’t want candy and two dollars? Alice was ten and the prospect of two dollars still sounded pretty good, but she wasn’t about to scurry all around the yard to win it.

Alice didn’t see the Easter egg hunt as a race to collect the most eggs. For one thing, the eggs that were easy to find, she couldn’t collect them. The one that was lying in the middle of the lawn in plain sight was for Ben to find. The one that was sitting in front of the bushes was also for Ben. And the one on the porch swing was meant for Ben. If they were too easy to find, they weren’t for her. She would get the one hiding in the mailbox, or behind the bushes, or cradled between a low tree
