She lay on the narrow bed, the shapeless silver blanket piled up at her feet. Eyes wide open, staring blankly into the ceiling. She lay there, trying to chase away the thoughts, the memories, the kind that crept in on you from the darkness on a sleepless night, drained your soul of life, leaving behind only the bitter taste of ashes when they were done tormenting you. A muffled knock broke the silence. The soft glow of the holoscreen on the wall by the door cut a light-blue square in the semi-darkness.
