ELSBETH
I’m looking out my window and see our large oak tree. Sunrays are peaking thru the branches. Today I’ll be visiting ma good Friend Elsbeth. Her device, every one’s life has a special meaning in this universe. I’ll be telling you a certain life.
Her story starts in her teen years. The Year is 1936. Her name is Elsbeth, 15 years old. She lives in a one story-house, which serves as a station for a train-company. The farm is in Eaglerock a few miles from Pittsburgh. Not far from the house, you’ll see a log cabin.
Elsbeth is the oldest daughter; she helps her mom with the household, and caring for the five younger sisters. Harold is her favorite brother. He is three years older than she is. She can talk to him about everything. He listens patiently, even if it doesn’t make sense to him.
Elsbeth loves her brothers and sisters; she also tolerates their unusual habits, which is not always easy. As the oldest girl, she feels to be responsible for all of them on the way to school and from school.
Jack her three years younger brother, is the most chaotic one of them all. He is always into something. For example, he loves to scares the youngest of them. He runs ahead of them all, hides himself behind a tree, he waits until Lilly comes by and howls like a wolf. Elsbeth must constantly remind him of what mother said before they left home. There are days when Jack can be as serious as the next one. No one can tell what really goes on in his head. One day he asks Harold a question, which totally surprised Elsbeth.
Harold, why do you want to be a lawyer some day? You’ll be just sitting around, listening to every little problem they tell you, and you have to solve it.
"Well, Jack my little brother. I want to become a lawyer, there is a theory of mine, in case the rest of the world is acting like you, it could be happening that I’ll become although the richest man in this county. I’d never be out of work. Because you have the habit to break things, or you’ll get in such trouble, no matter what you do. It will end up in a chaos. Remember grandpa’s cherry tree? Grandpa just planted it and you pretended to be George Washington. You chopped it in two. If I remember right, you told grandpa I need some extra point in history lesson. I had to test it if it works. That’s, the lamest excuse, I ever heard. Only you can think of something like that. Grandpa must have been in a good mood, otherwise you would have to clean up after the cows for the next few months", he answers.
Okay, Harold you don’t have to be that exact
, responses Elsbeth. Our little Jack is only one out of a million. Only God knows what goes on in his head.
„Thanks, Elsbeth, but I don’t need your help. You don’t have to defend me!" explain Jack
These are the most arguments they have. No one knows when Jack gets an idea to be serious. He discusses with Harold about everything. Elsbeth gets caught in the middle, trying to be the diplomat for them. At least it doesn‘t happen every day.
A week later, on a Friday, a total chaos, her sibling won’t listen to her at all, neither on the way to school nor on the way home. Elsbeth is furious. Stay calm. Don’t lose your nerves. I just have to make it home. I will tell mom everything. She’ll correct them, and tell them how to behave.
As they arrived home, Elsbeth went to her mom, crying she tells her mom what happened on the way to school and home.
"Mom I’ll never get married. I don’t have the patience. How do you do it? You have everything always under control, your patient with them. That is nothing for me. Jack didn’t only pick on Harold. He was even so mean to Emma. She cried the whole way
