About this ebook

Do you remember summers from your childhood? Did the summer holidays seem to last for an eternity? Was it always sunny? Did you laugh and play with your friends for hours on end?
Lydia’s childhood summers were a lot like that. Every year, her parents would take her to a beautiful lake house where they would all relax, watch dragonflies and Lydia could see her best friend Alice. Lydia loved those summers. She never wanted them to end.
But one fateful night changed everything; ruining it completely.
A combination of disappearances, bloodied hammers, terrifying dreams and grisly deaths will change Lydia's summers, and her life, forever.

    Thank You.

Yes, you. Thank you for downloading this e-book. I hope it acts as a short, bite-sized introduction into the world of Lou Yardley.

I’m what’s known as an indie or self-published author. As a result, I need all the help I can get to get my name out there, so that my stories can reach as many people as possible.  You can help here! If you like what you read in this e-book, please consider telling a friend to download it from my website, Amazon or Kobo (remember to tell them that it’s FREE!). If you REALLY like this story, please consider writing a short review on Amazon, Kobo or Goodreads.

And, if you REALLY, REALLY like this story, please check out my first full-length novel, The Other’s Voice. It’s available as an e-book from Amazon and Kobo, and as a paperback book (yes, a real book with pages and that REAL BOOK SMELL) from Amazon and CreateSpace. In fact, if you really want to help me out, head over to my CreateSpace store for The Other’s Voice  at:

Although I wrote the words, I couldn’t have done it without these awesome people:

Mark – for putting up with me and looking after me.

Mum – for being the BEST MUM IN THE WORLD.

Suzbum – for being my brilliant lil sis... and a ‘fluffywoo’!

Laura and Karen – for reading this for me, spotting my mistakes (they were put there deliberately, honest!) and for your advice in regards to plot and style. I may not always listen to it, but I appreciate it!

My cats (Cecil, Tigger, Gizmo, Tilly, Angel, Pinky and Brain) – for being SO FLUFFY!!!!

    CHAPTER 1

    ––––––––

Just like clockwork, every summer Lydia's parents would take her to the lake house. It was a beautiful place, small and homely, but still a real sun trap. It smelt like summer. It looked like summer. If you asked a child to draw a picture of summer, there was a big chance that they would draw the lake house, complete with a smiling yellow sunshine in the top corner of the page. The food there even tasted like summer. The family liked to have their meals
