The alarm rang promptly at 6:00 a.m. just like it did every morning. Each day Maurice, Daisy, and Dolly started the day with exercise. One, two, three, four,
Maurice counted off as he stretched each paw as he warmed up in hopes of not pulling a muscle.
Five, six, seven, eight,
Daisy chimed in as she stretched, getting out of bed.
I am coming,
stated Dolly, though if given the chance, Dolly would have stayed in bed.
Out the door and onto the tree branch the squirrels filed and down the trunk of the oak tree where they lived.
Maurice always ran ahead of Daisy and Dolly. Daisy and Dolly would walk enjoying the birds singing at this time in the morning. Dawn was breaking. Dew hung on the leaves and the tree branches which sparkled as the sunbeams hit them. The first light of the day began shining through onto Nut Lane. Ahead the squirrels trudged making sure to incorporate a half hour of exercise into most days.
What a super exercise session,
Maurice said, time to hit the shower
