- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This content of this book was later renounced by one of its authors as conductive to gaslighting and abusive relationships, as a reviewer below also remarked. There are many resources that promote a better and emotionally healthier approach to polyamory than this book does.
Anecdotally, I'm happy to have listened to the pain that I felt when first reading this book when me and my long term partner were first attempting to open up our relationship. I felt there was something deeply wrong with the way this book told me I needed to more or less ignore any negative feelings I had. There is definite value in working through certain emotions, but the way this book is written, it is mostly a tool in an abuser's toolbox to demonstrate to the victim that "see, the literature says it's all your fault."
Stop referring to this book as the standard work on polyamory. Remove its toxic influence from the community. Please.2 people found this helpful
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Be careful with the advice in this book! Its authors were in a toxic relationship when it was written and much of its ethical framework is deeply problematic. Check out Eve Rickert's article about this: https://brighterthansunflowers.com/2019/11/29/what-i-got-wrong-in-more-than-two-the-dark-night-of-the-soul/
The good news is, Eve is releasing a second edition later this year that effectively is an entire re-write. Looking forward to reading it when it comes out!5 people found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent, practical, and compassionate explanation of polyamory and its place in everyday life. Perfect for anyone to read if they are polyamorous, are polyamory-curious, or know/love someone who identifies as polyamorous. Non-judgemental, humorous, and supportive advice for everyone fills each chapter, covering everything imaginable from health concerns to jealousy to telling your parents and/or children. Highly recommended.
