Reviews for Finland at War 1939–45
13 ratings2 reviews
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A very interesting exploration of this little-known. The Finns' gallant defence of their territory against the USSR deserves to be better known amongst English-speaking readers and this short book provides a good introduction to the battles, uniforms, weapons and tactics employed. The illustrations are also good, as ever.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is another one of those Osprey booklets that while fine on a factual basis, has been superseded a bit on the interpretive front. In particular, it's now appreciated that Helsinki had aggressive designs on Soviet Karelia from almost Day One of the republic, and that pressure from London and Washington had a lot more to do with Finland ceasing operations in the Continuation War than any sense of satisfying war aims. Still worth reading though.
