JACOB fitted the night-vision goggles over his eyes and settled in the ground-level box as he prepared to watch for anyone who might dare to snap photos or try to take video of the world premiere of the film. It was one of the security issues any big film festival had to deal with in this modern age of video-capable cell phones and other recording devices. His job would be a little easier tonight for two reasons. First, he wasn’t particularly interested in this film, a historic romantic comedy along the lines of Jane Austen’s books. Secondly, Mattias was working tonight, so he’d have someone to ogle on his regular sweeps through the room.

He knew it was a hopeless fascination. The man lived with one of the festival presenters: cute, funny, bubbly Nicole with the long, black, curly hair and vivacious personality that came through from just her smile. When she came on stage and enchanted everyone in the room with her speech and her tribute to a city
