CODY’S WORDS STUNNED her. They had shared intense passion and an amazing connection but she had no idea he felt as strongly about her as she did about him. Caring for her could simply have been out of a sense of duty. He was that kind of guy. However, his actions came from a place deeper than that.

    Quote from Stalked,

Black Rider’s Motorcycle Club Series bk 1

    Chapter One

MID-SUMMER IN OCEAN City meant evenings that were like the nights of endless weekends, and the night above Skye Bar couldn’t be more spectacular. The surf below was lively and glittering. The soft breeze hinted at romance, and left Sadie Winnemaker yearning.

Sadie had been having an on-again, off-again relationship with a charismatic member of Las Pulgas, a biker club in Ocean City with a dangerous reputation. The relationship was off again at the moment.

The guy she was crushing on just wasn’t giving her the time of day. He had all the time in the world for her at night, though. Except for that night. Apparently he was busy. It was tough to be in a town where the season’s entire purpose was fun and to not have any herself. She missed her biker. She missed Diego Rodenas.

Sadie drew the outside gig and got to tend bar on the roof. She broke her own rule which was not to party with patrons, but she had such a great haul in tips by the end of the shift and it was such a beautiful evening, she let a customer or two buy her a drink. Afterwards, rather than go to her place which wasn’t too far away, Sadie walked across the street and let herself into her brother’s house.

Sadie’s brother Rick had a spare room she crashed in often. Lately it was because Diego stood her up. She hated being alone. The night of camaraderie that netted her a small fortune at Skye made her feel all the more alone.

She would also crash at her brother’s if the weather was bad. Being right on the ocean, she was afraid thunderstorms would wash everyone out to sea. Storms grew waves big enough to reach over the roads and walkways nearest to the ocean, so it was possible in her mind. Sometimes if a patron was a little too interested and she wasn’t at all, sleeping at Rick’s just made her feel more secure.

She let herself into the house, knocking on Rick’s door to let him know she was there. She closed the spare room door behind her, and without turning on the lights, stripped down to her undies. Sadie got under the covers and sank down to let her head hit the pillow. The bed was warm, and the drinks, along with the long hours at work, knocked her out. For once she didn’t feel alone.

She was the last one to wake in the house the next day, but the noise from downstairs told her morning had arrived. She kept a stash of pajamas in the closet. When she went for them, she was surprised to see that Rick had moved a lot of his clothes in there. She couldn’t find her own stuff, so she borrowed sweats and a hoodie and padded to the kitchen for her first cup of coffee.

Sadie half expected to see her brother and maybe a roommate, but as she walked into the kitchen she saw the table was crowded. She locked eyes with Taylor Gregg, who had a very strange look on his face.

    You’re here? she asked Taylor.

    Rick laughed.

Well, yeah. I rented out the spare room to him, he said.

Taylor smirked at her but didn’t say a word as Sadie’s insides burned with embarrassment. They had shared a bed the night before and she’d had no idea.

But you’re here? remarked her brother Rick with surprise.

Yeah. I knocked and said hi when I came in, replied Sadie, kissing him on the cheek. Choosing to ignore the fact she’d slept in Taylor’s bed, she poured herself coffee and stirred in a spoonful of sugar. No wonder I didn’t feel alone last night. Or cold.

    Nice outfit, Taylor remarked.

It was awkward, to say the least, because Sadie and Taylor had had a one-night-stand a while back, when Diego Rodenas had broken her heart. Taylor was there to pick up the pieces. She regretted being with him immediately – not because the sex was bad, it was amazing – but because he fell hard for her.

And Sadie was addicted to Diego.

Thanks, replied Sadie, not quite understanding why Taylor made such a remark.

Did you work last night? asked Rick.

    Yeah. Good money. Sadie grinned.

No Diego? Rick inquired in a mocking tone.

Sadie squirmed at the mention of Diego in front of Taylor. She watched his jaw flex with tension. It was a shame they hadn’t hit it off. He was every bit as good-looking as Diego was. Both men were hot. Crazy-hot. Taylor was sweet and attentive. He was definitely there for her in bed. The timing was just all wrong.

    Diego’s fine, replied Sadie.

Really? her brother asked her like he was lecturing her.

    Sadie evaded his scold.

Do you know that for a fact or are you just guessing? asked Rick.

    Taylor smirked into his coffee.

    Lay off, said Sadie.

I don’t like to see my beautiful, smart sister waste her time and her body with the wrong guy. He’s a son of a bitch, Sadie. Half of Las Pulgas have done time. And the other half should, Rick said.

Thank you, said Sadie tensely. Thank you for caring.

Rick grabbed his keys. You know where I stand where that piece of shit is concerned. He kissed her cheek. I’ve got work. He ruffled her hair and winked. Love ya, sis.

You bet your ass you do. She nodded at him and smiled. Thanks for letting me crash.

    Any time.

Rick’s exit left her alone with Taylor. A current flowed between them that was always there. How she hadn’t noticed him in the bed last night was crazy. Had she just slept in panties as well?

    So Sadiebug... Taylor began.

Don’t call me that, she said quickly.

Why? he asked in a syrupy voice. You liked it when I called you that before.

She did. She thought it was awfully cute and liked it a little too much. Diego rarely called her by her name. Rick said it was because he was with so many women that if he just called them belleza he didn’t have to keep their names straight.

It’s just not appropriate, she replied.

Taylor raised his eyebrows with amusement. Well, neither is fucking me while you’re hung up on another guy, but that was okay, he said. I’m not complaining.

Sadie stomped out, heading back to her room, but Taylor’s big, powerful arm hooked her slender waist. She had to listen to what he said; he was stronger than she was. But she also liked how it felt when he touched her. They did have magic. She also knew he wouldn’t hurt her.

That was uncalled for and I apologize, he murmured. I knew what I was doing and I’m glad I did it.

Thank you, she rasped. And thank you for not saying anything about me and you... to anyone.

Taylor leaned in closely to her. He was a big guy and she was petite, so even while he was sitting down they managed to nearly be face to face. No, thank you, he said casually. You have the hottest little body of anyone I’ve ever met. The pleasure was all mine... well, yours too. He grinned. It was torture, but it was a pleasure. Then waking up and seeing you in your matching Secrets this morning... Damn, woman, I thought I was dreaming.

The problem Sadie was having at the moment was that Taylor wasn’t making her mad. He was turning her on. She wanted to just let herself fall into his lap and to kill the morning hours in his bed. It was more than just a Band-Aid attraction. There definitely was something there. She just couldn’t let him know.

    Chapter Two

THOUGHTS OF TAYLOR Gregg lingered in Sadie’s mind for days. She told herself it was easy to think about him because Diego was nowhere. She tried everything to lure Diego to her, but nothing was hooking him. She went on a
