      CHAPTER ONE:

      Wake Up, Princess!

      Wake up! Wake up!

      Princess Sassafras pulled her pillow over her head and groaned. Mornings made her grumpy even under the best of circumstances. Go back to bed, Clara, she grumbled.

      Clara was Princess Sassafras’s number one handmaiden, and her BFF. But Princess! I have important news! Clara had always been very excitable, and often spoke in exclamation points. The royal knights from all five kingdoms have embarked upon an epic quest to win your hand in marriage!

      Princess Sassafras poked her head out from under the covers. She was sixteen years old, and had no intention of marrying anybody. Certainly not at this hour of the day, at any rate. Oh? And just what is involved in this quest, intended to woo me so comprehensively?
