ALWAYS BET ON BIG AND BEAUTIFUL

I slid my fingers over the green felt poker table and mentally smiled at my cards.

Straight flush with tens. Not bad, Cindy.

It wasn’t the best poker hand but damn close. The chances of my final opponent beating that were infinitesimal.

In my peripheral vision, I saw people I’d met only through high-stakes poker gambling. Off to the right was an older oil tycoon from Texas dressed in a white suit. To my left, that muscled boxing champion. His poker face was fine but the sweat against his black skin gave away his cards. Also on the right was that thin rubber–faced comedian.

At my dead center, Glenn Cooper, dotcom billionaire. He stared back with a smile flashier than his clothing. His silver suit was worth more than I made all month in my old life.

With each breath, tight chest muscles that made other women swoon pushed against his black silk shirt. I won’t lie. I didn’t expect a billionaire to be so built, but it was his mentality that stood out.

He’s the only one who didn’t misjudge my poker ability and why he’s still in the game. I thought my trick would work on him, but it didn’t.

Still, three out of four isn’t bad.

The men weren’t stupid, but they made expensive assumptions. I wasn’t sure if it was because I was a woman or that I was on the hefty side. They wouldn’t be the first to equate pounds with stupidity.

Or the first to lose money on the green felt battlefield.

I kept my stare on Glenn while he returned the favor. He was one of those guys who wasn’t overt with their wealth – besides his Hugo Boss suit and smooth haircut. Most new millionaires spent their money on expensive cars, alcohol, or jewelry. Hell, I fell into that trap with my first big win.

If you looked at him, you’d just think muscled guy with a hint of dark stubble. Although he did look good in the suit.

My muscles tightened and I willed information and instinct my way. Nothing came. It doesn’t always happen. Hence, I do my research. You never know if there is an advantage you can exploit. Some players hate certain perfumes while others are distracted by lip smacks. Unnerve them enough and it’s a lost game – for them.

I didn’t find anything that wasn’t publicly available. He invented that stupid social media site everybody uses. You know the one. That place where everyone posts pictures of their cats and kids. Although, it made him billions so I couldn’t fault that.

    Hell, I’m after money myself.

This world of uber-rich was still new to me. Maybe that’s why he didn’t fit my billionaire stereotype. I thought billionaires were older men like the oil tycoon next to me. I wasn’t sure if it was because he was new money or if he was a statistical anomaly – like beating my hand.

    He
