Chapter One
Nathan laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling while his thoughts wandered. He couldn’t be happier for his brother but seeing how much happier Noah was, now that he had Mitchell, made him long to find his own mate. Being around Ethan and Isaiah didn’t make the situation any easier. Both sets of mates were perfect for each other, even though they’d had some struggles at first, especially since Mitchell was the only one who started out gay. Watching them only made it want his own mate more. Gender didn’t matter to Nathan, all he wanted was to find his mate.
Getting out of bed with a sigh, Nathan started to get ready for his shift. Ever since the Hunters’ attack on Noah and Mitchell all available pack members were running patrols in shifts. They had always posted sentries but there weren’t enough of them to handle the increased workload. Somebody had betrayed the pack to the Hunters and the people involved hadn’t been found. Nathan hoped he was there when they caught the bastards so he could have a go at them. What kind of person would reveal the pack to people who brutally killed shifters or captured them for experiments?
Nathan finished dressing, walked downstairs to put on his boots before grabbing his keys from the small table by the door, and headed towards the pack’s meeting hall. The slight breeze that ruffled his hair reminded Nathan how much he loved being a shifter. Their natural body temperature ran a little hotter than human’s and he appreciated the cooling effects of the wind. Just as Nathan arrived, the breeze shifted directions, carrying with it the tantalizing scent of wood burning fire in a campfire.
Nathan’s entire body was instantly aroused; his mate was nearby. Thank you Fate. Following the delicious scent to its source, Nathan realized it was coming from Sebastian. Damn, Nathan kicked himself for not getting to know the wolf better before now. Ethan and Isaiah were friends first, and then mates but it was too late for regrets. He’d do everything in his power to learn about his mate now; it would be fun. There was no way Nathan would deny his mate now that he’d found him and if Sebastian didn’t want him Nathan would do everything he could think of to convince him to give them a chance.
Nathan sucked in a sharp breath as his eyes swept down Sebastian’s body. Nathan knew he wasn’t small, not by a long shot, but Sebastian was built like a linebacker. Standing next to him would make Nathan seem smaller than he actually was. Sebastian dressed all in black. A plain tee stretched tightly over his muscles and fitted jeans covered his body in all the right ways. Damn, Nathan’s dick felt harder just from looking at his mate. His gaze traveled up to Sebastian’s face and he sucked in another breath. Sebastian’s face was classically handsome and Nathan knew it would only take one smile from Sebastian for him to be hooked. His forest green eyes were framed with long eyelashes and a strong nose complemented his softly curved jawline. Nathan was pleasantly surprised to find that hint of softness on such a well-built man but knew better than to let himself be fooled by Sebastian’s looks, he was a shifter and there was nothing soft about his strength.
***
The moment Nathan came into sight, Sebastian knew his entire life had changed. Just before the breeze shifted, he smelled honey mixed with maple wood. Sebastian wasn’t out of the closet yet but he secretly hoped his mate would be a man. He had tried to tell himself that he would be happy with a female mate but he preferred men, and was ecstatic to discover his mate was male. He should have known Fate would look out for him.
Sebastian and Nathan had only met briefly before today. Hell, Nathan was the pack Heir; if something happened to Noah, he was next in line. Sebastian didn’t think anyone would be challenging Noah anytime soon; he was a force to be reckoned with and Mitchell had protected him during the Alpha challenge. Together, they were not shifters you wanted to mess with. Finding your mate was a dream come true and Sebastian secretly envied them; he could see the love the Alpha pair shared.
Sebastian knew Nathan didn’t have a superiority complex and many people praised the work he did within the pack. It was because he admired Nathan that he’d never worked up the nerve to speak to him. Sebastian wasn’t much of a people person, which is unusual for a shifter. A pack is like
