CHAPTER 1
Once upon a time there was a little girl, named Gelatina, whose appearance was different from other children. One day she found herself in a strange place, where nobody knew her, and she felt lost.
It was a warm day and the child realized that she had fallen into a waste land, without any flowers, trees, roads and children who played there.
A hot wrapping wind blew. After having walked for hours, she found herself wandering about aimlessly, until she ran into a sunflower field. There were so many of them that blinded her, because of their intense yellow ochre colour.
That wasn’t the temperature she was used to, in her town it is much warmer. In addition, the soft wind wrapped, and scratched her delicate face. She had walked a lot, and had observed with surprise all the strange things she noticed in this foreign town: she saw a squirrel climbing on a tree and the feathers of dandelion flew high in the sky, and heard the noise of the pond. All things that didn’t exist in her town. At one point, Gelatina thought to stop and stay still; in fact, she couldn’t sit, because she didn’t know how to do it.
Afterwards, she was very curious of a tree trunk, she wanted to see what was inside: for a little bit she remained still, then her nose glowed, and so she was able to go inside the tree trunk to empathize in the life of the plant.
After about an hour the little girl left, convinced that she had seen enough of the tree species. She certainly wanted to see the leaves also, and go inside them, but to do so she had to concentrate more, but she was very tired to go through. Therefore, she decided to keep on walking at a slow pace.
Suddenly, in the middle of the trees and the twigs of the forest, she saw a big space and a little house: she heard screams and laughter, voices that sang, others beckoning. The little girl wanted to get closer, and go to the feast, but she realized that she couldn’t. The reason was that she was different from other children. She had long hair, one side was green and the other purple, in the place of her eyes she had a mask - that looked like a porthole - with which she could see, and understand the signals of the external world; in the place of her nose an iridescent flower came out. It glowed, when she ordered, and had a lot of power.
And what about her mouth? Well, she didn’t have any mouth, but on the sides of her face came dashes which enabled it to be nourished, and so assimilate the elements to the nourishment. It wasn’t normal food. Her skin did not have that pale pinkish characteristic of human beings, and it wasn’t soft: on the contrary, it was rigid, not very nice to caress, and transparent. Yes, transparent, but done in such a way that it was not possible to see the bottom.
At a certain point, Gelatina saw children who ran after each other, and played. She looked at them carefully, and drew up their behaviors. Then, she decided that she should wear a dress to cover herself like them. Then it stiffened, her nose shone, and behold, she had a dress on: a white shirt with a colorful ice cream design, a cute skirt, and a pair of sneakers.
CHAPTER 2
Gelatina didn’t know what to do. She wanted to get closer to those children, but because of her appearance she couldn’t.
If they had seen her, they would have shut her up somewhere, and perform some experiments in her. Nevertheless, she was longing to play with the children. So, the little girl looked at them, to try to feel their same emotion, and make herself similar to those children. After all, she was a child as well.
Three more children came out of school, a boy and two girls. The first boy ran forwards, while, the two other girls chased him, shouting : We’ll catch you!
. The boy was faster than the girls, and brandished a sort of case, containing pens and pencils, and he held it up like a trophy. He jumped quickly, from one side to the other, avoiding the stones and the roundabouts in the garden, which were a significant obstacle.
The boy resembled a deer amidst the high grass, leaping and plunging into it. He, then, climbed a tree so fast that he almost wounded his arms doing so.
The little boy, finally, succeeded in reaching the treetop, and he rejoiced at it, because his schoolmates hadn’t managed to reach it. He waved his case like a trophy, and screamed: I won, I won, I won…
Two girls were at the foot of the tree, stretching their arms to the sky, and bellowing: It’s not fair! Get down!
The boy laughed his head off. The
