    It was understandable that Judy’s mind froze and she couldn’t think of anything to say. But she couldn’t excuse herself when she blurted out, “I never have sex on the first date.”

    Leland looked at her with an almost blank expression on his face and only raised his eyebrows a little. “Um...I suppose that’s good to know.”

    “I can’t believe I just said that!” Judy covered her mouth with her hand and actually blushed. She hoped her red face wasn’t too visible in the oddly lit dining room.

    Showing he was ever the gentleman, Lee said. “It’s okay. I wasn’t expecting that to happen tonight anyway.”

    Picking up her fork, Judy couldn’t look at him while she spoke her next words. “That’s too bad because I’d really love to have sex with you right now.”

    A silence settled between them as Judy picked at the food on her plate. Lee set down his glass. “There’s a hotel across the street.”

    Shyly, Judy looked up at him through the few stray bangs that were falling too low on her forehead. “I don’t want to do that. Maybe we could go to your car?”
