Introduction
In 2013, a Huffington Post/YouGov poll discovered a significant increase in the number of Americans who believe in ghosts since the question was first asked in 1978. In this year, only 11 percent admitted to believing in ghosts. Today, remarkable 45 percent answered the question with Yes
. 64 percent think there is a life after death and 53 percent believe that people go to either heaven or hell after dying. But nobody knows. Only 28 percent of respondents have ever seen or believed themselves to be in the presence of a ghost. Polls in other countries deliver similar results. People from every religion, culture and generation believe that ghosts truely exist.
Another fact is nearly similar. 37 percent of Americans told Gallup they believe in haunted houses. Many people do not only believe in haunted houses, they actually seek them out on vacations. Stephen King got the idea for his novel The Shining
