"Luck’s always to blame." – Jean de la Fontaine

Over the past year and three months, I’ve come to know luck more than… anyone on the planet! Seriously! The things I can do since that fateful day John Ashkore plunged his Artifact into my chest!

I’ve learned to walk through doorways and instantly teleport to any doorway in the world. I can sense people’s Luck around me, which can be quite blinding to my senses at times, I assure you! When I sense it, I can change it – whether for good or bad, with just a touch! And I can fight with Luck on my side! Oh to fight with Luck! It’s a graceful – no, beautiful dance! I won’t lie - it’s difficult to manage it all sometimes, but I must admit, I absolutely love it! All of it!

My Steward, Leah, says I’m learning quickly. She still won’t let me out of her sight though, or the sight of my two handmaidens. I do manage to sneak off every once and awhile using my powers. Luckily, I haven’t been caught yet…

    Personal Diary of Helena Thompson

58th (And Current) Avatar of Luck

    April 20th, 2009

It was raining out. Just a drizzle though, there was no thunder or lightning. It made window-shopping for Helena a gloomy time. At least she was outside of House Luck. She had been cooped up in there for far too long – five weeks since her last excursion. She couldn’t buy anything, of course. Her Steward and two handmaidens would certainly find out about her trips if they found something new in the House. They probably kept tabs on her credit cards as well. Window-shopping was fine, for now.

As she walked down a random shopping plaza in California, She noted all the things she wanted when she was done with her Training. It was late evening; so all the stores were closed, save a little coffee shop and a theatre, conveniently located next to each other. There weren’t even many people around. Occasionally a car would drive through the parking lot, like the one that came through about thirty minutes ago. It had parked at the end of the section that Helena was about to finish walking down.

She noticed it, noting its four occupants never got out, and has thrown about a dozen cigarette butts out the cracked windows. Not wanting to go home with any bruises, she started a brisk walk to the coffee shop, which was one and a half sections away now, with an alley between them.

As she neared the alley though, the car started moving towards her. She wouldn’t have enough time to get to the coffee shop. She unbelted her white trench coat, and felt for the small knife she carried with her. Better safe than sorry. When she looked past the car, which was now between her and the coffee shop, she thought she saw a familiar face.

Hey there sexy, how about coming for a ride. The man in the low riding car said through a now opened window.

No thanks, I’m busy. Helena replied, as casual as possible. She looked over the car again and saw no one outside the coffee shop. Had she just imagined him?

That wasn’t a question. The man said, as the three passengers opened their doors.

She looked around hesitantly, deciding the alley would be the best place to handle this situation. She turned to her left, and moved in front of the car, its headlights illuminating her and her white coat like an angel.

When the driver stepped out of the car, he and his three passengers walked around the front of the car. One of the men was carrying a baseball bat. The driver noticed her expensive looking necklace almost immediately as the light threw a few green rays over the alley.
