Because she signed for the order she feels responsible, so when the crates of books are stolen right in front of her she tries to intervene. She is kidnapped and taken for a wild ride in a horse-drawn coach in an alternate world. (Author's note: This is mostly my wife's story.)

Rik Hunik was born in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada, in 1957, and has lived his entire life in BC, except for a few summers in Alberta, and a few days in Washington State climbing rocks. He has lived in Ymir, Wells, Quesnel, Prince George, Quesnel, North Vancouver, Quesnel, Burnaby, North Delta, and Quesnel. I live with my wife Jo and a blue-eyed, white cat named Mister. I mostly build houses and shops to earn a living but I'm also a writer, poet, artist, photographer, role playing game designer and independent e-book publisher. I’ve written dozens of stories, including fantasy, horror, sword & sorcery, mystery, humor, erotica, and science fiction, frequently combining genres. Chapter 1

You’ll have to sign for these, lady, said the man in the gray coveralls as he thrust a clipboard in through the library’s back door.

Just what am I signing for? Amelia asked, blocking the door with her foot so it only opened six inches. She didn't reach for the clipboard.

A load of books, he said, pointing over his shoulder at a van, but looking at her. She was pretty in a bookish way, with large-framed glasses, and long brown hair, tied neatly back.

Amelia shivered and hugged herself, her polyester pantsuit offering no protection against the chill wind that blew through the open door. There were no more deliveries scheduled for tonight and I’m behind already.
