Ow! 19-year-old Lucy exclaimed as the stagecoach bounced especially hard against her sore rear end on this seemingly endless trek across The Great American Desert. Her whole body ached from the constant jolting but nothing hurt more than her, up until now, pampered and sheltered ass. Pulling the curtain aside, she glanced across the arid plains, scanning out along the grass and past a few struggling trees to the slight rise of the horizon where a couple distant riders threw up a small dust trail.

Tired of the scenery, she collapsed back into the seat of the coach and reminisced. Maybe I shouldn't have left home, she thought to herself. But there was no way I was gonna marry that horrible Thomas Toolittle. Lucy shuddered at the thought of his name. And Mom always bringing those backstabbing, so-called-friends of her's around. The second one would leave the room they would all talk badly about her. That's not the life for me. Lucy had replayed this conversation with herself dozens of times in the weeks since she ran away from home.

Unconsciously she smoothed her light green dress and checked her meager belongings. Inside her now-battered traveling case she had one pair of breeches, her favorite sky blue dress with matching ballroom shoes, two frilly blouses, three sets of earrings, assorted underwear, the precious necklace her beloved grandmother had bequeathed her, and, most importantly, the approximately 200 dollars worth of silver bullion she had stolen from her pappy the night she ran away.
