    Chapter One: Introduction

The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau was first published in 2013. It happens to be the first book in a series of the same name. The story revolves around Malencia ‘Cla’ Vale, a sixteen years old girl.

There is a competition for seats in the University. She competes with her fellow peers from all across the United Commonwealth.

Cia is allowed to carry three items from home. She eventually takes her brother Zeen’s transit communicator. She believes that the gadget with help her on the way.

Her classmates Tomas, Zandri, and Malachi are also accompanying Cia. Michal Gallen is their testing official. They leave Five Lakes Colony for Tosu City, the capital of the United Commonwealth.

The United Commonwealth is what is left of the United States after the nuclear war and unprecedented natural disasters. Cia leans that there are hidden camera to record their every word and action.

She decides to present her best behavior at all times. She tells Tomas about her resolve. Both of them agree to look out for each other over the course of the Testing.

They eventually reach Tosu City. There are 108 other candidates who will be competing for only 20 open seats at University.
