About this ebook

A year after Tank Tucker’s killing spree at Jacob’s Bible Camp, six people have gone missing. The local police, state patrol and now the FBI are involved, but so far their results have turned up little. They are not even convinced Tucker is alive, let alone that he is behind the disappearances.

The only person to survive an attack by Tucker, Mary Isaacs, has taken it upon herself to lend a hand to the authorities, but her goals are not necessarily the same as those of law enforcement. Mary’s close relationship with God has given her a unique view of the killer, and she hopes to find Tucker and to end his murderous ways while also glorifying the Lord.

The killer has different ideas, however. With the only surviving victim at hand, he has ways of torturing her, and his goal might be the ultimate test of Mary Isaacs’ faith.

The taxi pulled up and stopped next to the highway where there was a turnoff to a gravel road, the driver looking around nervously. The surrounding woods, as dark as they were, probably caused him little concern, but the two law enforcement cruisers parked across the gravel lane no doubt caused him a bit of caginess.

We’re here, he said to the back seat as a uniform approached from one of the cop cars.

A young woman reached forward, offering a hundred-dollar bill. Will this be enough? she asked.

That will do it, he said, snapping up the bill as if it would disappear.

Thank you for bringing me all the way out here, she said, then opened the back door and climbed out.

Just then the approaching deputy motioned for the driver to roll down his window, sparing a glance to the woman as she reached within the vehicle for a jacket and what appeared to be a backpack.

You can’t park here, the deputy said.

The taxi driver put the window down a few inches. I’m just dropping off.

The cop shot another look to the woman, who had ignored him as she pulled on the jacket and slung the pack over a shoulder.

You can’t drop off here, either, the deputy said.

A thumb jabbed towards the woman. Take it up with the passenger.

Looking to the woman, the deputy thought there was something familiar about her. She was a few years younger than himself, so it was not likely they had gone to school together.

    Ma’am? he said.

She flashed him a friendly smile while buttoning the lower half of the jacket to keep out the growing autumn chill. Hello, deputy.

He smiled back, but then it turned into a frown as the taxi sped away along the otherwise deserted highway.

Please don’t worry about him, the woman said. I don’t believe he will be needed.

I’m sorry ma’am, the deputy said, nodding to his partner in the other cruiser and the thick woods and gravel road
