    A Note From the Author

Thanks so much for joining me on this journey. When Rebecca Royce invited me in to this series, I was overjoyed. I loved getting to work with all the talented authors in this group and even more I got to do it writing something I love. Werewolves hold a special place for me.

I hope you enjoy this tale of second chances.

    Dedication

Rebecca Royce. For being an awesome friend that believes in me.

    Prologue

Kaden flinched as his father snapped at his mother in the front seat of the car.

I told you, it doesn’t matter what you think we should do. We can’t keep them with us. It will put us on Magnum’s radar, and we will end up the next ones dead.

Kaden’s mother cast a quick look of concern over her shoulder.

The fear rolling off his parents threatened to choke him. He didn’t know what to say. His gaze traveled over his best friend and his sister seated next to him. The tear tracks on their cheeks matched. Myka had fallen asleep, snuggled into her brother’s side. Lance gave him a pleading look as he wrapped one arm around his sister. The pained look tore at Kaden’s insides. He wanted to plead with his father to keep Lance and Myka, but he knew the answer would be no different than the one his mother already received. They were orphans. Their Alpha, in a crazed fit, had killed their parents a few hours before. What words of comfort could he possibly offer?

They’re just children. Poor little Myka is two. And Lance can’t be expected to take care of her. He’s only eight years old. His mother’s harsh whisper said she, at least, hadn’t given up the fight.

Damn it, Mate! We can’t keep them. Gee told us to take them to Yellowstone. There is a pack there. Hopefully someone will take them in. It’s the one shot I can give them.

Kaden held Lance’s stare. His best friend—his brother. The hurt and betrayal leaked from Lance’s pores, and the scent gagged him. His friend silently beseeched him. What could Kaden possible do? He was only a child himself. Tears streamed from his eyes as the car rolled along in the dark, carrying them far away from Los Lobos and to the end of a friendship he’d never forget.

    Chapter One

You do realize the amount of money it’s going to cost to fix this place up, right? Myka Hayes looked up at Gee. He was one tall SOB. Most people thought he was Native American because of his darker skin tone. No matter his race, the Werebear could be one hell of a scary guy if he wanted to.

I didn’t hire you as my accountant.

Okay. Myka directed her gaze to the outside of the bar. The dry-rotted wooden walls had definitely seen better days. She had been on the inside once, a few weeks before. It was enough to know the project would be the biggest job she’d tackled yet. She hoped the funds were there to pay her once completed.

She had nothing against the Werebear personally. The pack was barely getting on its feet again. With that thought, came memories of the Tao pack’s former Alpha, Magnum. He’d been the reason she and her brother were no longer part of the Black Hills pack. When Magnum lost his mind after his mate died, he had killed her parents. She and Lance had been smuggled out of the pack that night for their protection. Both had been so young. No one from the Yellowstone pack dared to take them in. They didn’t want trouble with Magnum. Luckily, a kindhearted she-wolf from New Mexico had been visiting a family member. Cassandra. The wolf Myka had come to call Mother before her death three years ago. Memories from those younger years were dim, thankfully. Because those memories still haunted Lance, which was why she didn’t tell him about the exact location of her new job. He would throw a fit if he knew she’d returned to Los Lobos. But she had to. She wanted to know where she’d come from.

I hired a new bartender and handyman. Come on and I’ll introduce you.

Myka shook off her wayward thoughts and hitched her purse higher on her shoulder, following Gee into the bar. The smell of dust and old beer filled her nose. Cleaning didn’t seem to be a big priority
