About this ebook

What if there was an operation that could give you the body you desire, increase your life span tenfold, and be utilized to revive recently passed loved ones? Interested. Well, consider this. No one has ever attempted this kind of operation on a human. And, so far, animal testing has not been successful. Someone will trust a surgeon to perform this operation for them, but at what cost...?

Jessamy, a 17-year-old high school junior, is sick of people treating her like an outcast for being shy. She has an opportunity to change how she is viewed when her family moves to another part of town. She takes advantage of the move by leaving her unwanted identity behind. On her first day, Jessamy makes friends that would not have known she existed at her last school. A few days pass and she is invited to a party for the first time. Jessamy sneaks out her house after-hours to attend. She converses with people, has a couple drinks, and enjoys herself. After leaving the party, having too much to drink, Jessamy finds herself in a situation she would have avoided in her right mind state. During a moment of misjudgment, she unknowingly set off the first event that will soon place her life in the balance. Jessamy tries to resume normalcy the following week, but her actions from that night catch up with her. She attempts to make sense of everything going on at the expense of those she befriended with her assumed identity. At that moment, Jessamy goes from being an unlucky observer to the linchpin of the White Clover Project— a strategic plan for making this untested operation successful.

    Chapter 1

Jessamy felt her inner demons lining from first to third around her heart— with regret, acting as the concertmaster, hastily tuning her heartstrings. Trees swayed like batons as the moon was eager to orchestrate their song. And now, with a compromised soul and hollowed vessel, a concert befitting of her inner demons’ conquest ensued. Though lacking the perfect acoustics of a Hollywood starlet, their performance was otherwise magnificent. Regret played her heart like the devil’s violin, in G minor. Incompetence, anxiety, and hesitance followed suit. Their heart-churning songs reverberated throughout the car and lulled her into a heavy bewildered daze. Jessamy reached out and gripped the steering wheel. Her arms began to shake as the sorrow crept in. Did I just kill someone tonight, she thought while gazing at the body through her rearview mirror lying face down on the road. A tear ran down her face— carving a scar down her soul that carried away any good feelings she had about herself. Jessamy buried her chin into the collar of her shirt. Why can’t you do anything right? She sat up in her seat and shouted into the night. Jessamy glanced at the rearview mirror hoping to see signs of life. The body remained still. She closed her eyes and imagined different ways that the body would rise off the ground until regret drove her thoughts toward hopelessness. She wiped her eyes before checking on Schrödinger’s cat again; no luck, the body remained lifeless. She tried to mentally will the body upright to no avail. It appeared colder with each frantic glance. Jessamy closed her eyes to hold in the tears... They seeped through her eyelids to clear away any remaining good feelings. She rammed the back of her head against the headrest. I don’t deserve to be alive. Jessamy slumped over like a wilting flower nearing its death— her head landed in her rigid hands. The intensity of her sobbing caused her tired arms to rattle. Then she became stiff, and, realizing that her life is not the one in jeopardy, peeked at the rearview mirror between her fingers. Did I just see…? Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Jessamy was so overcome with relief that she could feel the sorrow lifted off her spirit. Regret gave her thoughts back, but remained ever vigilant as the situation could still turn in its favor. Wanting to confirm what she saw through her own eyes, Jessamy reached for her door handle. It felt more unyielding than in times past. She gave it a swift tug and was soon paralyzed by the tune of a hunched over male figure wailing in the distance. She fought the urge to not get involved and stepped out.

Jessamy noticed him clutching his left knee. You okay? She shouted.

I’ll be fine. He said before collapsing on the road.

Hey! You alright! Jessamy shuffled about in a panic as he writhed in obvious pain. Answer me... Please, anything. She hid her face in shame. His groaning caused the sound of her beeping car dashboard to disappear
