Previously: When we had filled each other’s mouths to overflowing, we collapsed on the bed, sweaty, gasping for breath and totally exhausted for the moment. Until we heard the doorbell.

And my dad’s voice. Charlie. Roger. Where are you?

Wide-eyed, we both leaped off the bed and that’s when I realized our clothes were downstairs.

There’s a back stairway through the kitchen. I’ll get dressed here and keep him occupied until you get dressed, Mr. Shannon sounded as panicked as I felt.

On shaking legs, I ran down the stairs, through the kitchen and into the family room being careful to stay low so my dad wouldn’t see me running through Mr. Shannon’s house naked. Snatching up my clothes, I hit the bathroom that I spotted right off the family room and dressed hurriedly.

A quick glance in the mirror let me know that I didn’t look as frazzled as I felt. Yet, if my dad looked close he’d see a little sparkle in my eye that wasn’t there before. I stood a little taller and felt and looked more confident than I could ever remember.

Yes, I’d made the right decision and, thanks to Mr. Shannon, I was learning how to please and be pleased by another man.

When I came out of the bathroom, my dad and Mr. Shannon were on the front porch talking.

Hey, Charlie. Your mom cancelled our trip, Dad said with a hand on my shoulder. I was able to come over and help after all.
