    EVA AND THE EXTREME EXECUTIVE

Sergio Castillo is the most infuriating man, ever!

That’s the opinion Eva Santiago holds of the adventurous, risk-taking tycoon who is determined to pursue her...despite the fact that she's made it very clear that she’s not at all interested.

But Sergio Castillo is not one to take no for an answer.  Eva learns that soon enough.  And so, although he represents everything she fears, she soon finds herself falling under his spell...until she realizes that, no matter how much she wishes it, a leopard can never change his spots.

Constant conflict at every turn.  Can Eva hope to ever tame her extremely adventurous executive?

    CHAPTER ONE

Eva could not believe it.  The most annoying, most indefatigable man was back in her office.  Again.  Would he never give up?

What are you doing here?  Her position as office manager at a medical office was all about customer service but service to this customer was the last thing on her mind.  He was just too darned annoying.  Didn’t I tell you to come back only if that leg started hurting again?

Her aggravating visitor only smiled.  How do you know I’m not hurting?  Maybe that’s the only reason I’m here.

Eva rolled her eyes.  I doubt it.  You don’t look like you’re in pain at all.

Well, I am, he said, his smile looking more like a smirk. I’m in pain because a certain beautiful lady won’t go out with me.

And I told you, Eva began, totally exasperated. Then, realizing that the patients in the room were enjoying the scene, she lowered her voice. I told you, that’s not going to happen.  Not now. Not ever. She fixed him with what she hoped was an intimidating glare. You’re not my type.

Wanting to send him a strong message, one that would be loud and clear, she got up from around the desk and walked away. Maybe if she looked busy he would get the message.  A medical office was no place for a man to try to hit on a woman.  Didn’t he get that?

She walked over to Señora Rodriguez who was busy trying to fill out her medical form. Eva sat by the elderly woman and spent a good five minutes helping her with that task then she went over to Señora Gomez who had brought her toddler for a checkup.  Eva sat there with the little girl, admiring the ribbons in her hair and getting giggles as she tickled her tummy.  That took another three or four minutes of her time. Thankfully, another patient walked in and she went over to greet him, totally ignoring the tall, lean and annoyingly handsome man who still lounged by the reception desk.  She gave the new patient one hundred percent of her attention, trying to drive home the point that she was busy.  Deliberately, she spent a whole seven minutes attending to the man, hoping against hope that her unwanted guest would give up and just disappear.

    It didn’t work.

Like he didn’t have a care in the world, the man just stayed there, watching her, an irritating smile on his lips. When she’d finally checked the patient in his smile widened.  Ready to talk to me now?

No, I’m not.  Can’t you see I’m busy? she hissed.  What do you want from me?

He cocked an eyebrow at her and gave her a crooked smile.  You know what I want. Just say yes and I’ll get out of your hair. When she didn’t answer he continued.  I know you want to get back to your patients.  Just say the word and I’m gone.

That’s blackmail.  The words came out in a fiery whisper.

    He shrugged.  Whatever it takes...

She heaved a sigh.  She could see she wasn’t going to get rid of him any time soon.

And then the door opened and another patient walked in.  And then another.  The place was getting busy.  Okay, okay, you win.  Call me here at the office but after four o’clock when it’s not so busy. I’ll go out with you, she said, her eyes narrowed, but only for a cup of coffee.  This will not be a date.  Get that?

He grinned, looking like a pleased puss.  Got it.  I’ll call you after four.  And then, obviously gloating at his victory, he turned and sauntered out the door.

Eva could only stare after him, flabbergasted.  Talk about a man who wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Then she shook her head, a small smile creeping onto her lips.  Poor man.  If he knew the real Eva Santiago he would not be so eager to go out with her.

    ***

Sergio Castillo was a happy man.  He’d been pursuing Eva Santiago for months, ever since Dr. Gomez had told him his leg was sufficiently healed where he no longer had to use crutches or rely on pain medication.

Intrigued by the doctor’s office manager, he’d asked her out that same day but she’d turn him down cold.  He hadn’t given up, though, dropping in to see her almost every week since then, asking her the same question.  Would she go out with him?  She’d never been afraid to tell him no. Until now.

He smiled.  He guessed he’d worn her down.  Finally.  He was living proof that persistence paid off.

She’d insisted that she would only have a coffee with him but he had other plans.  He knew exactly where he would take her.  Once she heard he was making reservations at El Bistro she would be sure to come around.  He would give her a call on the dot of four-thirty to set that up.

Now, though, he had another engagement, this time with a man who had started out as just an acquaintance but who had quickly grown to be more than just a friend.  The grandfather of his best college buddy, Señor Alvarez now lived in a nursing home in Monserrat, one of the older neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.  When Pablo migrated to Europe and could no longer visit his grandfather on a regular basis Sergio took it upon himself to be the old man’s ‘adopted’ grandson.  It didn’t matter that he, himself, had a grandfather, one who was all of ninety years old and sharp as a tack.  He just wanted to do this favor for his friend.  He knew Pablo would do the same for him.

And so, a couple of times each month, Sergio would drop in at the nursing home to see Señor Alvarez and exchange a few words with him, just so the old man did not feel abandoned.  He had other family right there in Buenos Aires but the cantankerous old coot was always getting on their nerves, telling them off when they disagreed with him on anything.  Pablo had been his closest relative, the one with whom he would share all his thoughts and concerns.

Once Pablo left to take up a position with a corporation in Spain, he was close to devastated at losing his closest friend.  This was where Sergio came in.  He’d met the old man a few times, liked him, and told Pablo not to worry.  He would take his place, visiting the gentleman and playing the role of listener and confidant.  And it didn’t hurt that the old man loved to hear about his wild adventures.

Today, when he went to the nursing home Raul Alvarez was not in his room.  He found him seated on a bench under a tree in the backyard garden.  He hadn’t been hard to find.  Being outdoors, surrounded by nature, was the old man’s favorite thing to do.

    Hola, Raul. Como está?

Señor Alvarez raised his head and when he saw Sergio approaching, his wrinkled face softened in a smile. Ay, niño, I am here, taking things one day at a time.  At eighty-eight years of age, what else can you do?

Sergio laughed.  You can do a lot.  My abuelo already hit ninety and he’s as busy as can be.  I’m less than a third of his age and the man has more energy than I do.  By this time he’d reached Señor Alvarez.  He sat down on the bench beside him.

Raul shook his head.  Your grandfather, Rodrigo Castillo, he is one of a kind.

With that, Sergio had to agree.  He’d never met a man as focused and committed to his life’s passion and his work as his own grandfather.  At the thought, he gave an inward chuckle.  Wasn’t it the pity that he was the total opposite?

As soon as Sergio was settled on the seat the old man turned to him, his face eager. So what’s new?  You know nothing ever happens around this old nursing home.  Tell me what’s going on with you.

Sergio shrugged.  Not a whole lot.  You know I’m still recovering from my injury so there are a lot of things I still can’t do.  He grimaced.  I was supposed to be on a mountain climbing expedition but I had to forget that.  I need a few more weeks of recovery before I can tackle anything like that.  But then he brightened.  But today I made some progress on a special venture and I’m feeling good about it.

Raul raised his eyebrows.  A new business venture?  I thought you were scaling down while you were recovering.

Sergio shook his head.  No, not business.  This one is all pleasure. He chuckled.  Remember that hot honey I told you about?  Well, she finally agreed to go out with me.

Raul’s eyes widened.  She did?  You’ve been after her since, what?  The beginning of January?  That’s almost three months.

Sergio nodded.  Yes, it’s been a while but I finally wore her down.  Today she said yes.

Raul’s eyes narrowed.  What did you promise her?  What made her change her mind all of a sudden?

Sergio shrugged.  I didn’t have to promise her a thing. All I did was keep coming back until it got to the point where it was embarrassing.  I think she only agreed so she could get rid of me.

A questionable strategy.  Raul was frowning.

    Sergio shrugged.  It worked.

Still, the man looked skeptical.  Yes, but then what?

Sergio grinned.  Don’t you worry about that.  I can be a charmer when I want to.  I’ll make Eva an offer she can’t refuse.  He did not miss the curiosity that lit up Raul’s eyes.

What did you have in mind?  The old man asked.

But Sergio only laughed.  "Oh, no.  I’m
