The mountain of books and papers was stacked high on the kitchen table and Sonya was stuck at the bottom of it, mining for intellectual gold. She was midway through her dissertation and had spent the last 7 hours stuck in a cycle of structural analysis, critique, self doubt, frustration a few minor breakthroughs and a couple of near breakdowns.

I hope this PhD shit is worth it she thought, looking up at her piles of source material and trying not to think about the piles of debt she was racking up in the name of higher learning.
