    Billionaire's Maid

    Part Four

    Chapter 1

    Hello, I said.

The house is a mess! said Jaden. Where did you go leaving everything like this?

I turned to the side to try and obscure the conversation as much as possible. It'd be embarrassing if the driver overheard us talking. I held my hand near the phone.

Why yell? I said. I'll clean everything later.

Come clean everything now. I told you I hate things being like this.

I can't come right now. I'm in the middle of being taken somewhere.

    Where? said Jaden.

    To meet your family.

    What? Why?

Jaden ended the call before giving me a chance to respond. It wasn't long before I arrived outside the home of Jaden's family. As I stepped out of the car, I couldn't help but be impressed by the house. It looked grand, and spacious from outside. My house was big too, but this felt different. More luxurious. I was led to the front door, and was greeted by a woman who looked to be in her fifties.

Thank you for coming. I'm Edna, Jaden's mom.

Nice to meet you, I said. I'm Hayley Marsden.

Jaden's grandmother is waiting, so please follow me.

We walked into another room which looked like a study. An elderly lady was sitting at a desk, and reading a book. She had grey hair, and wore glasses. She looked at me as soon as I entered, and I introduced myself. She did the same in return, but her voice was curt. Her name was Gretel Stark. She was Jaden's grandmother.

Do you really have to wait for the family to enquire about you? said Gretel. You should've introduced yourself to us earlier.

    I'm sorry, I said.

I didn't know how else to respond. Everything had happened so haphazardly, the mere thought of it hadn't come to mind. I understood why they'd feel disrespected considering the wedding was so soon. We'd never even met before.

How old are you? said Gretel.

    I'm twenty eight.

    What do your parents do?

They've both passed away, I said.

    When did you graduate?

It felt like an interrogation. Almost as if they were trying to find out as much as possible about me. She certainly didn't waste time with her questions.

I graduated from Miami High School, I said.

    Is that it?

    Yes.

Why didn't you study further? said Gretel.

    I wasn't very good academically.

She didn't seem particularly pleased with my answer.

Is it true that you're already living with Jaden? said Gretel.

    Y-yes.

Gretel sighed, and looked away. She held her head, and was obviously displeased. She must have been quite conservative I thought. Not many people took issue with couples living together these days. It made sense, considering how old she looked.

    Grandma! Grandma!

I noticed the voice, and it sounded like it was Jaden. Sure enough, moments later, the door opened, and he walked inside. Gretel seemed to brighten instantly upon seeing her grandson.

Jaden! You've come. Why is it so hard to see your face lately? said Gretel.

I told you I'd introduce her to you later, so why did you drag her here? said Jaden.

Do you really still insist on disappointing your parents like this? said Edna.

    Hayley, let's go, said Jaden.

I froze, not knowing what to do. It seemed so abrupt.

    Aren't you coming? said Jaden.

I laughed nervously. I'll say bye for now.

Before I was able to finish, Jaden grabbed me by the arm, and led me outside, ignoring the shouts of his grandmother to stay and eat. As he took me towards the gates at the entrance of the house, I told him to let go. We came to a sudden stop, and I noticed an older man looking at both of us. He was dressed in a suit, and wore glasses. Just by looking at him, I could tell he was Jaden's dad. There were no smiles or pleasantries. Jaden said a simple goodbye, and led me to his car. As we drove off, I felt there was something amiss.

What did my grandma say? said Jaden. Did she scold you?

    No, I said.

Don't let her upset you. There's no point in getting stressed over it. Do you understand?

Grandma, Mom, Dad, I didn't even think you had a family. You're so great all by yourself, I figured you must have dropped straight from the sky.

Are you kidding me? said Jaden.

But why is your relationship with your family so strained? I said. Although, I can imagine...

Be quiet. What do you know? If you don't want to be stranded, then don't say anything else.

You should be nicer to your family, or you'll regret it later.

I warned you to be quiet.

Listen when people are talking, and don't just get mad, I said.

Jaden slammed the wheel with his hands. Why is everyone giving me advice today?

"I'm sure there's a good reason. You should learn to take others' advice. Your grandma was begging you not to leave earlier,
