About this ebook
Recount Jamaica is an ode to my island home, a review of experiences in years past. These experiences are encapsulated in poetic verse and I am thankful that I lived to tell the good, the bad and the beautiful. I have tried to paint a picture in each poem that will allow my readers to share, even by a glimpse, what we here at home experienced. Whether it is crime, storms, politics or economic hardships, every experience has survived to make the nation of Jamaica stronger.

DEAR READER
Introduction to Jamaica
My home, Jamaica, is precious. It is the third largest, English-speaking Caribbean country and is populated with over 2.7 million people; a rare pearl in the Caribbean Sea. Our island is inhabited by people brought to its shores against their will; but no matter the struggle we have faced over the last several centuries, we live, we endure.
The land
Jamaica boasts white sand beaches, particularly a gorgeous seven mile stretch in Negril and black sand beaches guarding the edges of the east and south coast. There’s flourishing flora and fauna of the epic inlands; bumping up in the sky, like the Blue Mountains and Cockpit Country. Not many get to visit the tiny oasis of stunning beauties, hidden in deep set curvatures of the island. Truly, Jamaicans are far more blessed than we realize.
The everyday man misses the unique gifts which are upon him daily. Where else does almost every home have a fruit tree in the backyard and generally several of them too. Jamaica has tens of thousands of towering mango trees, ackee trees, breadfruit, or our national flower lignum vitae trees. The countryside is lined with succulent cherry, plums, apple and so many delicious morsels from God's garden.
Our food
Jamaican food can be so tantalizingly delicious. The succulence of some of our traditional dishes will just leave you
