About this ebook

While Princess Elysant enjoys the taste of freedom and romance with Darragh, Captains Barwick and Tethion seek the assistance of her betrothed, Duke Concobhar. A search and rescue party is gathered to find the princess and it includes both Barwick and Concobar, himself. Leaving behind a council meeting that will decide the ruler of Albion, they go in search of the "kidnapped" (runaway) bride.

The first night of their chase, Barwick has a series of dreams. Still unsure of how his new powers work, he does not realize they are visions until his dreams start coming true.

One is a magical message issued by Lord Randall Castle to the magical community of which Barwick is now part.
One is of a widow who needs help to free her from an unintentional curse.
One is of impending danger to Elysant.

Barwick, however, in true hero form, hides his magical identity from his companions while embarking on their quest and saving the day. He deciphers and resolves two of his visions, unintentionally making himself known to both Lord Randall and to the magical community of Albion. All that remains for him to do is save Elysant from the danger he knows is impending.

Meanwhile, Elysant and Darragh flee their pursuers and eventually find themselves staying a rainy night in a tavern. Here, Elysant's vulnerability is exposed and Darragh's true nature is revealed. He is not as gentle or heroic as she thought. He has a cruel streak that he does not mind turning on her when the whim strikes him.

Will Barwick be able to find his princess while also trying to hide his fledgling powers from the Duke and their search party? Or will he be sent to prison for exposing his magic in the attempt to rescue her?

    Chapter 1

Screech!_____ Alyssa pushed her desk chair across the marble floor. She paused beside her little brother, who was playing on the floor with his collection of toy cars.

Get out of my way, turd, she ordered. Don’t you want a story tonight?

Innocent eyes gazed up at her from a mud-colored face. Short ears flopping lazily, Andy perked one up to ask, Is it bedtime already? He began slowly moving his cars into a pile.

He’s always slow when it is my turn to pick the story, Alyssa thought. She huffed exasperation and pushed the chair between their beds, destroying Andy’s pile and scattering cars everywhere.

Hey! he protested. Looking in the direction of the door he called, Momma! Lyssa is picking on me!

Shut up. I am not, contradicted his big sister.

Getting down onto all fours, she began quickly scooping his cars back into a pile and then into a small, plastic bucket. Anxious to be finished before she got into trouble for the mess, she did not hear their bedroom door swing open and closed. So when she turned to look for more cars, she was quite startled to see a large pair of shoes beside her.

Following the shoes upward, she came across the stern face of her father. More importantly, she found his eyes. Thick brows knitted together, Daddy’s eyes were watching her.

I was just helping Andy pick… she began, but Daddy interrupted. Having heard the ruckus from outside their door, he was fully aware of what had just transpired. Alyssa needed a lesson in tolerance. Putting her on the other side of patience would be a fair one.

You are not in bed. You must not want a story, he declared, beginning to turn back toward the door.

No, Daddy, please! I DO want a story, she begged. Quickly scooping the last of the toy cars into the bucket, she slid it toward a wall and jumped into bed, pulling the covers quickly over herself.

Carkigo paused, pretending to contemplate changing his mind. A slender finger scratched his long, pointed chin.

    You’re sure? he prodded.

    Uh huh, she answered.

What about you? he looked at Andy, climbing under his own covers.

    Andy nodded.

Watching both children, he confirmed, You’re not going to change your minds?

    Both shook their heads no.

    Alright, he conceded.

Taking a seat on the chair Alyssa had positioned for him, Daddy addressed her, Momma says you get to choose the story tonight. Which story do you want me to tell?

It was a rhetorical question. He knew what her answer would be. Whenever Andy
