    The Puzzling Letter

The trees outside were in full bloom and those tiny annoying aphids were flying about everywhere, being just as much of a nuisance as they were last year. People were trying to ignore the bugs and enjoy what was otherwise a great day. Inside a small house along Springbank Avenue, Darrell was not enjoying his day at all. You see, three hours earlier, a letter had arrived. At that time of course, Darrell had thought that he would quite like some fresh air, a stroll by the lake, and a bite to eat at his favourite diner. In fact he was looking forward to it so much that he wouldn’t have even minded walking through a swarm of those horrible little pests. All of this was halted when he had come upon the letter. After reading it, his plan was altogether abandoned, like a broken hubcap at the side of the road. No one would ever know whose it was or ever bother to pick it up. The letter had read like this.

    Dear Darrell,

I regret to inform you that you are being transferred to North Hattonville. I am dreadfully sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

    Yours as always,

    Maggie Fletcher

This letter had shot into Darrel like an arrow. He had no idea where it had come from and why it had happened. So he sat down in a chair to ponder the meaning of it. Who is this Maggie Fletcher lady and why am I being transferred? He thought. Darrell could not come up with anything that he had done that would have warranted this letter. He also couldn’t remember ever meeting anyone by the name Maggie (He would have remembered that, he was great with names). Just the other day he had recited all the names of every state and their capitals to a country he wasn’t even from. Surely he would have remembered this Maggie character if they had truly ever met. Was she someone high up in the company or the new head of human resources? He didn’t even know they had a building in North Hattonville. It didn’t make any sense to him. So he continued to sit, wondering what all of it meant. Could he have done something terribly wrong at work or unknowingly insulted his boss and for some reason the shock of being transferred had driven the whole ordeal out of his memory? Or was it some practical joke, sent to him by his friend Trevor? He didn’t stir from his spot until his friend happened to arrive.

    "Hey man, what’s going
