- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This was moderately interesting to start, but the romance between the characters was so entirely rediculous that I couldn't finish. I wanted to like it but just couldn't.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5OK, so I'm a sucker for books with dogs, angels, elderly couples, big women and small children. :o) Seriously, this was a bit formulaic, but really sweet, fun and enchanting. I admit I was a bit weepy at the end. It is the holidays, after all, and stories should have romantic, happy endings. This book has two stories that involve the angels Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy (I know, kind of cute, right?). There's romance to make, dogs to be found and hearts to mend. I was charmed and if you're looking for a good Sunday afternoon read to brighten your day, this is it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I just finished reading book 7 for the Christmas Spirit Challenge and 2010 Holiday Reading Challenge. And true to the spirit of Debbie Macomber’s other Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy books, Angels at Christmas was a winner. There were two stories in this book. The first one is Those Christmas Angels. This is the first story in which all three Prayer Ambassadors get sent to work on the same prayer request. Anne Fletcher was about to give up hope. She sent up one last prayer in hopes that someone in Heaven would help to thaw her son’s frozen heart. After his dad had stolen his fiancé from him, he lost faith in love and trust in humanity. Archangel Gabriel decides that this case needs a special touch. So he sends his three favorite Prayer Ambassadors (but he will never let on to them that they are) down to help out Roy Fletcher. And as usual, Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy cause mayhem while down on Earth. However, once again they pull off this prayer request in a most unusual way. The second one takes us back to the original styling of Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy books. In Where Angels May Go, Gabriel once again sends down the three Prayer Ambassadors to Earth to each work on their own cases. Mercy was assigned to help elderly Harry get his wife ready for his soon departure from this life. A very difficult task, but one that Mercy undertakes with much love and compassion. Shirley got what seemed like an easy assignment, find a dog for Carter for Christmas. However, Carter’s dad was dead set against allowing him to have a dog. Shirley thought it would be easier to get the little boy to change his mind about wanting a dog. And we know how easy it is to change a stubborn little boy’s heart and mind. Finally, Goodness was assigned to Beth. Beth’s mother wanted nothing more than her daughter to put down the video games long enough to find another husband. Beth’s first marriage didn’t last. And Beth no longer wanted anything to do with dating. So she buried herself into World of Warcraft. Both of these stories were lovely. However, I do have to say that I wept much more with Where Angels May Go then with Those Christmas Angels. Definitely keep a box of tissues handy for the second story. You will need it. Then again, having had my mom pass away at Christmas time may have just made me much more sympathetic to Harry and his wife Rosalie. Death is never easy whether you prepare for it or not.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In Macomber’s romance novel, Anne Fletcher lives in Seattle and her greatest fear is watching her son grow into a bitter, career-oriented man with little compassion. Turning to her faith, she prays for a woman who will show Roy what really matters in life. Shirley, Goodness and Mercy are three good-hearted angels whose sole job it is to “assist” in human affairs. At the sound of Anne’s prayer, the angels swoop down to “interfere” with the lives of not only Roy but Julie Wilcoff. What a delightful tale!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Easy and fun reading.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed this book with two Christmas stories. I got this at a lending library and I voluntarily chose to review this. The two stories in this book is "Those Christmas Angels" and "Where Angels Go". Debbie's angels are so fun to read about. I've rated them each 5*. And these stories, touched my heart. So it moved pretty fast and it was a page turner. Those angels sure have a lot of curiosity about us humans. This author does not disappoint me. On to my next read.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Nice light Christmas reading for a break while baking cookies or addressing Christmas cards.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Shirley, Goodness and Mercy are three well-intentioned angels who occasionally interfere with people's lives to help them, sometimes this goes slightly wrong. Right now they are working on answering Anne Fletcher's prayers that her son Roy would become more human and find some love in his life. They throw Julie Wilcoff in his way and he has to face up to his feelings. It's interesting but it just wasn't quite my thing.
